Toyota recently announced a new reason for car buyers to consider its certified pre-owned vehicles: free satellite radio. According to the automaker, shoppers who purchase a certified pre-owned Toyota or Scion equipped with SiriusXM satellite radio will now get a free 3-month subscription to the service, just like on Toyota’s new vehicles.
The free subscription provides buyers with unlimited access to SiriusXM’s music, talk, sports, news, and traffic information, and is available on all certified pre-owned Toyota and Scion vehicles that include built-in satellite radio. Undoubtedly, the automaker hopes the 3-month trial subscription will help sway buyers who are otherwise unsure about the benefits of certified pre-owned vehicles, which are often more expensive than typical used cars.
“Giving our customers SiriusXM for three months adds value to our Certified Used Vehicle program,” said Dave Depew, corporate fleet manager for Toyota Motor Sales, USA. “It gives our Certified Used Vehicle customers the opportunity to experience services from SiriusXM that enhance the experience of driving Toyota vehicles equipped with easy-to-use, state-of-the-art products such as satellite radio.”
While providing three months of free satellite radio in used cars may be new to Toyota, it’s not unheard of in the automotive industry. Several automakers, including Chrysler, Volkswagen, Nissan and Infiniti offer similar programs for their certified pre-owned vehicles, while General Motors provides a 3-month subscription to SiriusXM in any used car with the feature, regardless of the manufacturer.
Although the program benefits automakers by providing buyers with a new reason to purchase their certified pre-owned vehicles, it also gives SiriusXM an opportunity to reach new customers. While 3-month free trial subscriptions to SiriusXM are common on new vehicles, shoppers who consider only used cars don’t typically get a chance to experience with satellite radio.
“We look forward to working with Toyota and Scion dealers to provide even more of their customers the opportunity to listen to SiriusXM when buying any Certified Used Vehicle equipped with a satellite radio from Toyota,” said Joe Verbrugge, SiriusXM’s senior vice president and general manager of automotive remarketing.
The automaker says the new program is immediately available to car shoppers considering certified pre-owned Toyota and Scion vehicles at dealers nationwide.
