Hyundai Blue Link Adds Google Search Capability

  • Google search functionality for new and existing Blue Link systems
  • Destination search by voice recognition
  • Available on 500,000 existing U.S. Hyundai vehicles

Hyundai announced it will provide the same Google destination search capability available on the 2015 Genesis to 500,000 existing vehicles. The next-generation Hyundai Blue Link debuts on the new Genesis this spring, but U.S. Hyundai vehicles equipped with first-generation Blue Link can already access the feature. It allows drivers to search for destinations using voice commands and send directions directly to the vehicle’s navigation system.

That’s a win for owners with the earlier Blue Link system and for used car shoppers. Search and map data from Google is up-to-date and accurate. That’s why, even with a navigation system, drivers sometimes still reach for a smartphone to search for a store, venue or attraction. With Google search functionality integrated with Blue Link, that’s not necessary. Simply press the Blue Link or enhanced navigation button to begin searching by voice.

We’ve had good experiences with similar Google search functionality in vehicles from other brands, easily finding both nearby places and specific destinations by category or name. Barry Ratzlaff, Hyundai’s executive director of customer connect, Blue Link and service business development, promises the same both for the new, second-generation Blue Link and the upgraded existing system.

“When it comes to search engines, speed and relevant results is the name of the game, and now the Blue Link in-vehicle system has the same search quality as a customer’s smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop,” Ratzlaff said.

If you find yourself turning to Google on your smartphone to find a destination or get directions, consider a model equipped with Hyundai Blue Link for your next new or used car. The 2015 Hyundai Genesis will be followed later this year by the 2015 Sonata, which will also be offered with the second-gen Blue Link system.

What it means to you: Connected, in-vehicle technology is improving, helping drivers find destinations and get directions more safely and easily. With Google search capability, both the first- and second-generation Hyundai Blue Link systems do just that.
