What Is Chrysler UConnect?

Squinting is never a good look. Acquiring crow’s feet just to make out the name of a song on the radio is no way to kick off your daily commute. Chrysler which includes Jeep, Dodge and RAM vehicles, gives your peepers a rest with its Uconnect infotainment system thanks to a divinely large, 8.4-inch touchscreen.

Chrysler’s Uconnect is both hefty and simple. It’s a multimedia system that can do a lot without leaving drivers befuddled with options.

Like most infotainment systems, it integrates with your smartphone, has navigation functionality and boasts tons of media sync capabilities. What sets it apart is the cohabitation of a touchscreen with physical controls that adjust everything from climate to music preferences.

Its intuitive controls easily adjust seat or cabin temperature, your music options and call-making capabilities. Best of all, it also operates via voice command, so you won’t need to take your eyes from the road.

You’ll find the display area to be incredibly easy to navigate. Simple-to-read text and big icons ensure a frustration-free driving experience. Seven menu icons display a whole slew of options, including media, nav, phone and your favorite apps. These icons stay housed at the bottom of the screen at all times, making it a super simple way to access your digital stuff without spending a lot of time hunting down your faves.

Connecting your smartphone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi is a breeze, and you’ll find it’s a cinch to make hands-free calls. The system also features a USB input for your portable music player. If streaming tunes is more your speed, audio sources such as Pandora and Slacker fire up in a flash. Your best playlists will be treated to extra TLC with the help of a top-notch sound system with nine speakers and a subwoofer.

On the nav front, finding your way out of a traffic jam is no biggie with Uconnect. With the help of SiriusXM Traffic, you’ll get displays of real-time traffic speed and flow information, along with suggestions on avoiding congested areas. Sirius also keeps track of weather forecasts, fuel prices, sports scores and the showtimes of local flicks.

And if forgetting your phone charger is a near-daily occurrence, Uconnect has you covered. In-car, wireless charging is available for devices that support the technology.

Sure, good things come in small packages — but in the case of Chrysler’s Uconnect, big is definitely better.

  1. I’ve used the Uconnect system for the past year, as of today, the anniversary of buying my RAM Longhorn. I’ve had BMW, Cadillac, Lexus and Infiniti and I like this system better than any of the others. Don’t have problems loading it. Maps work pretty darned well and he entertainment is great. Yeah, you pay for it, but if you’re buying a $60K truck likely you can afford $149/year for Uconnect. A+

    • So what all does Uconnect let you do? I want to know everything before I spend $149 on it, and risk it not being useful enough to me.

  2. Bought a new Dodge Ram city. Really like the vehicle, but this uconnect system is total garbage. I can start the vehicle and drive five blocks before the warning screens and tom tom maps load. Once loaded you have to pull over to enter address as the icons are greyed out. Try putting n at light, soon as you start moving the screen changes and you have lost everything already entered. Navigating through the screens is impossible. Absolutely no instructions where provided. Then the sirus radio drops out  when ever you drive by a building , can only use in the country, then if there is no trees. I haven’ been able to answer a phone call yet and have unpaired my phone. The back up camera is very nice. I’m trying to have this removed from my vehicle.
