For all-season performance without the bulk of an SUV, the Subaru Outback crossover wagon has always been a top choice, and now it's even better. The new 2015 Subaru Outback looks great, comes packed with features and goes farther on a tank of gas than ever before. It's more rewarding to drive, too. Here are five reasons to grab the keys.

Secure Handling

Every Outback comes standard with all-wheel drive and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, so you can handle everything from snowstorms to light-duty off-road work. At the end of the day, the Legacy-based Outback still drives like a car. It has responsive steering and a planted feel, so you always feel in control. Why bother with a high-riding SUV when you could drive an Outback instead?

Impressive Fuel Economy

Most all-wheel-drive vehicles take a toll at the gas pump, but the Outback bucks that trend. With the standard 4-cylinder engine, it's rated at 28 miles per gallon in mixed driving, including an amazing 33 mpg on the highway. That's almost as frugal as a family sedan is, yet the Outback can also tackle a trail like an SUV can. The 6-cylinder version is no slouch, either, returning 27 mpg hwy despite its robust 256-horsepower output.

Spacious Interior

Although the Outback isn't an SUV, you wouldn't know it by all the space inside. There's 35.5 cu ft. behind the rear seats, and if you fold the seatbacks down, you'll have 73.3 cu ft. of space. Believe it or not, that's actually more than a lot of crossovers can manage. There's plenty of room for people, too -- even for tall folks sitting in the back seat. Again, you give up nothing if you choose the Outback over an SUV, and you might end up ahead of the game.

Generous Feature Content

Don't let the Outback's reasonable pricing fool you: This car comes packed with features. Most Outbacks come standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and a 7-in touchscreen, while fancier trim levels include Harman Kardon audio, leather and navigation. Plus, the EyeSight safety system uses stereo-camera technology to monitor your surroundings and keep you safe. The Outback has been trying to cultivate a premium vibe for years now, but the current model really gets it right.

Strong Resale Value

Outback owners are fiercely loyal types, and that's reflected in the car's high retained-value over time. According to Kiplinger's, the Outback has the highest resale value of any wagon. After 5 years, it will still be worth an unheard-of 44 percent of the purchase price. So you can drive your Outback for as long as you like; there will always be a buyer willing to pay top dollar for it when you're done.

AutoTrader Says

The 2015 Subaru Outback is the perfect solution if you want SUV functionality without the extra height and bulk. Even if you're leaning toward an SUV, you might want to give the Outback a shot.
