FIAT, unlike many, believes that economy cars can have fun, too. That is what the 2016 FIAT 500 is all about. In addition to all that fun is a great sticker price and many competitors can't say that. If you're searching for some entertaining new wheels, we have five reasons the FIAT 500 will definitely fit the bill.

Great Fuel Economy

FIAT gave the 500 a 1.4 liter 4-cylinder. This peppy little engine in base form returns 31 miles per gallon in the city and an impressive 40 mpg on the highway. Meanwhile, the automatic still delivers 27 mpg city/34 hwy and a 30 mpg rating overall. No matter which way you slice it, the 500 is a definite pump saver.

One-of-a-Kind Styling

There aren't that many small economy cars that are a styling icon. Yes, there is the MINI Cooper but it costs thousands more. You can also put the Volkswagen Beetle in that conversation. Truth is, most cars at the 500's price point are kind of boring to say the least. Our special 1957 Edition test car has stylish chrome hubcaps and color-matched wheels. The FIAT 500 is a sure head turner.

Sport Mode

Have you seen a Sport button in an economy car? We haven't either. Want to know what happens when you press it? The entire car responds as the automatic transmission shifts quicker, the acceleration gets exciting and the steering tightens up. You won't find these qualities at this particular price anywhere. This is one fun FIAT that encourages the long twisty way home.

Thoughtful Interior

Inside the 500, the dashboard says it all. It has some nice touches and rich combinations to match taste. Our 1957 Edition test car was very impressive inside. Take a look at the glass roof, digital gauge cluster, Bluetooth and automatic climate control. And get this: The rear seat backs fold to create a 30 cu ft. cargo hold -- that's twice as much space as a typical sedan can manage.

Bargain Pricing

So enough talking about a reasonable price and show me one already, right? Coming in under $18,000 is the base Pop trim level. Our fancy test car 1957 Edition starts under $20,000. This is one of the cheapest desirable European brands you'll find at that price. It's arguably the most fun you can have for under $20,000.

Autotrader Says:

Economy cars don't have to be boring. Take it from FIAT, they have a gem in the 2016 FIAT 500 and you have to put it on your list.
