The 2016 Ford Flex has ample space for the family, as well as optional all-wheel drive. Surprisingly, though, it's neither a minivan nor SUV: Versatile and one of a kind, it looks like nothing else on the road. The Flex forges its own path -- here are five reasons why it's one you should consider treading.

Romper Room

To say that the Flex is large is an understatement. The vehicle has enough room to seat seven passengers, plus you'll find ample legroom and headroom in the first two rows. The layout is extremely flexible -- that's one of many reasons it's called the Flex. The front passenger seat folds flat, as do the second and third rows, so surfboards and other awkwardly shaped items can easily fit in the back.

Uncommon Styling

The Flex's functionality makes it look and feel unlike anything you've seen before. The square design maximizes the interior without replicating the look of a minivan, and the huge passenger doors make it easy to get in and out. Meanwhile, the front end looks strong but smooth.

Driving Force

The Flex offers optional all-wheel drive, but the base-level front-wheel-drive model has all the comfort and composure you could ask for. With a 287-horsepower V6, it also has all the power you might need. If somehow that isn't enough, the 365-hp turbo Limited trim will just about knock your socks off.

Rich Features

Each of the Flex's trim levels -- SE, SEL or Limited -- comes well equipped. Options vary from a refrigerated cabinet that can store ice cream to a huge sunroof, leather upholstery, power-folding rear seats and even a voice-controlled infotainment system that reads out your text messages.

Road Trip Readiness

It's nice to be able to haul around a huge crew, but the Flex really shines when a family of four packs up and hits the road. Charging sockets and cupholders become all-important, as do a quiet cabin and comfortable seats. The Flex offers these features in spades; it's the complete package for road tripping.

Autotrader Says

You can call it many things, but one thing is for sure: The 2016 Ford Flex has many features and plenty of space. Give this unique Ford a test drive, and consider putting your family in the Flex.
