Yes, that’s right. The Camaro’s high-performance ZL1 model is back, and it’s better than ever before — way better.
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has a massive grille hiding a 6.2-liter shortchanged V8 borrowed from the Chevy Corvette. The result is 640 horsepower, which is an increase of 60 over the outgoing model.
There’s also a mean new look with big new wheels and an angry front bumper. And a spoiler. You can’t have a car like this without a spoiler.
Inside, the ZL1 shares much of its interior with the new Camaro, which is a good thing, since it was one of our picks for our 10 Must-Experience Interiors for Under $40,000. But there’s one new item in here: the transmission. This one is a 6-speed manual, but this car is also offered with a 10-speed automatic. 10 speeds: like a bicycle!
Are there any cool features? Well, there’s the cupholder mood lighting and fuzzy Alcantara steering wheel. But our favorite item is the rev-matching paddles mounted on the steering wheel.
Want a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1? You’ll have to wait until the end of the year, and you’ll probably have to pay about $60,000. But that’s not a bad deal for 640 horses.
