If you’re looking for information on a newer Mazda MX-5 Miata, we’ve published an updated review: 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata Review
If you talk to Mazda, they’ll gladly tell you they have the best-selling roadster of all-time. The MX-5 Miata has been around since the late 80’s, and they haven’t lost a step. Check out these five reasons to go with the fun and nimble 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF.
The Miata convertible is still available, but we had the RF version — short for Retractable Fastback. All it takes is a quick 13 seconds to seamlessly power-fold the fastback roof so you can enjoy the weather. See the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata models for sale near you
The rear-wheel-drive MX-5 RF returns 33 miles per gallon on the highway with the 6-speed manual, and 35 mpg highway with the paddle shifting automatic. Although the 155 horsepower 4-cylinder isn’t the fastest out there, that doesn’t take away from the thrill and excitement of the drive.
The Miata is attractive in any form (especially in its well-known convertible styling), and the Retractable Fastback is sharp. It has standard LED running lights, LED taillights and 17-inch alloys. There’s also a rear spoiler. Those in need of more performance will want to opt for Brembo front brakes.
It’s a bit tighter once seated inside the MX-5, but that’s how you want a roadster to feel. That said, it doesn’t feel cramped like some roadsters can feel. All the detailing inside is impressive, like the comfortable bucket seats — which, if you go for the Grand Touring trim level, will come with leather and heat. The standard list is long and includes push-button start, a 4.6-in LCD display screen, a 7-in full-color touchscreen and a powerful 9-speaker Bose system.
When you experience the Miata RF on a windy road, you’ll know it’s a very capable roadster. The lightweight and nimble MX-5 also has a near-perfect 50/50 weight balance, perfect for cornering. This roadster also has standard safety, like blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, which are both nice features to have.
We could all use a little excitement added to our drive. Check out the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF and see if this fastback has everything you’re looking for.
