2018 Lexus LS: First Drive – Video

Lexus was introduced in the U.S. in 1989. That first car was the 1990 LS 400. A large, rear-wheel-drive, V8-powered sedan — a car exactly like the ones most American automakers stopped building around that same time. Now in its 5th generation, the 2018 Lexus LS is an all-new car.

The new Lexus LS 500 is powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6, making 416 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. It uses a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The LS 500 gets from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. A V8 engine is no longer available.

The new LS is longer, lower and wider than before. See the 2018 Lexus LS models for sale near you

The 123-inch wheelbase is 1.3 in longer than the outgoing LS long-wheelbase model.

The LS 500h is a hybrid version it has 359 combined hp from its 3.5-liter V6 and electric motor system.

Some interior pieces have and intentional Japanese aesthetic.

The new 2018 Lexus LS has some driver-assist features like adaptive cruise control, but competitors like Volvo, Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz feel more advanced.

Its basic mechanical structure is shared with the new Lexus LC sports coupe.

The price for the rear-wheel-drive sedan runs from about $75,000 to $100,000, depending on options.
