If you’re looking for information on a newer Subaru Crosstrek, we’ve published an updated review: 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Review
If you’re looking for a compact SUV that can really handle itself off-road, then let me introduce you to the all-new 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. When Subaru says all-new, they’re not kidding. The 2018 Crosstrek’s made up of 95 percent new parts in comparison with the outgoing model.
Now the first thing you’ll notice is the tough new exterior. It’s rugged yet stylish, with black cladding that just tells you this car is made for adventure. But the Crosstrek isn’t just pretty on the outside, the inside is quite handsome as well. Slide into the cabin and you’re treated to a fashion-forward interior with its own signature orange stitching that accents the upholstery nicely. Appearances aside, the 2018 Crosstrek’s pretty capable off-road, too. Subaru brought us to South Dakota and had us drive the Crosstrek through a rock quarry that was hard enough to walk up and down, let alone drive. Despite the sketchy terrain, the all wheel-drive Crosstrek exceeded expectations — no doubt due to the included X-Drive Mode with hill-descent control.
Providing power to the new Crosstrek is a 2.0-liter direct-injected 4-cylinder engine making 152 horsepower. The engine has just enough gusto for the tiny crossover, while returning right around 29 miles per gallon combined with the CVT transmission. Speaking of transmissions, Subaru’s offering a manual version on its base model for 2018, so fans of stick shifts take note!
The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is in showrooms now, with a starting price around $22,000k, and rest assured — this is one crossover that leaves the competition in the dust.
