Outfitted with a normally aspirated 5.2-liter V8 paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, it’s clear this car means business. There’s no automatic transmission available on the Shelby, because it’s all about the driving experience. For that reason, you only get a manual gearbox to manage this Ford’s 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque.
It’s in high demand, so you might have to pay a little over sticker price to get in one. Even so, this version of the Mustang will likely appeal to collectors, so it could appreciate fairly quickly.
This sixth-generation Mustang is better than ever. The styling is spot-on, the interior feels more upscale and the ride quality has been greatly improved. See the 2018 Ford Mustang models for sale near you
We went to Atlanta Motorsports Park to see exactly what this new Shelby can do. This car is powerful and handles well, which means you can really get into trouble very quickly with a fun factor that’s so high. Whether you’re on a straightaway or going into a corner, you feel really in control. The steering is responsive and so are the standard Brembo brakes.
And playing around with the track apps is fun, too. There are performance timers as well as brake and rpm settings to help you get the most out of this car on the raceway.
Off the track, it has a better overall ride quality thanks to a light clutch, adaptive suspension and a variety of selectable drive modes.
And even though the Shelby does amazing things at high speeds, inside feels more sophisticated than your typical, stripped-down muscle car.
As for safety, the 2018 Mustang scored five stars overall on crash tests, and you’ll find a few advanced driver-assist features on this model, as well.
All in all, the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 delivers power, performance and style in a competitively priced package. If you’re looking for a track-worthy muscle car that you can enjoy every day, this Shelby could be the one.
