All-new for 2024, the Tacoma offers midsize pickup truck buyers a total of eight trims covering a range of prices and capabilities, but all with legendary Toyota reliability and resale value. Wider and longer than the previous generation, the 2024 Tacoma jettisons its V6 engine in favor of three variations of its turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The base SR gets a 228-horsepower version, while the SR5, some TRD trims, and the Limited get a more powerful i-Force version of the same engine good for 278 horsepower (270 when equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission). The top-line TRD Pro and Trailhunter get a hybrid i-Force Max powertrain good for 326 horsepower and a class-leading 465 lb-ft of torque. Depending on the model, there are two cab sizes and two bed lengths. Lower trims ride on rear leaf springs, with others using a coil spring rear suspension.

Notable upgrades include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, and driver’s seat two-way power lumbar control. Building off the TRD Sport’s standard and optional equipment, the TRD Off-Road adds skid plate protection for the gas tank and transfer case, Bilstein monotube shocks, 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, Crawl Control, and Multi-Terrain Select. Available upgrades include the i-Force Max hybrid engine, a 3D Multi-Terrain Monitor, and a disconnecting front stabilizer bar.

The Limited features almost every option as standard, including a power moonroof, power running boards, heated and ventilated front seats, JBL audio system, a bed-mounted AC inverter, panoramic view monitor, heated steering wheel, Digital Key, and a wireless charging pad. Among the few options are an adaptive variable suspension and the hybrid engine. 

2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter: The Trailhunter builds off the TRD Off-Road, adding more aftermarket upgrades like an ARB steel bumper and modular sports bar, ARB high-mounted air intake, and Old Man Emu suspension. Standard equipment includes a disconnecting front sway bar, locking rear differential, and additional underbody protection. The Trailhunter is designed for rugged overlanding, a step above the TRD Off-Road but not quite at the level of the TRD Pro. It’s a unique design with its own identity.
