2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV
Base price: $31,995 / Read our 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV First Look
What we like: More affordable than outgoing model; 259-mile estimated range; standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay; available in 50 states
What we would change: Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system not available; questionable styling
Overview: The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV is an all-electric compact hatchback. It’s powered by a single electric motor that produces 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. GM’s estimated range for the 2022 Bolt EV is 259 miles, which is the same as the outgoing 2021 model. The electric motor is mated to a 65 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
One of the biggest stories of the all-new 2022 Bolt EV is that its starting price is quite a bit lower than its predecessor. With a starting price of just under $32,000, a practical EV with good range is more within reach for a wider range of drivers. It also helps that it’s available in all 50 states through a robust dealer network.
We expect the new Bolt EV to start hitting dealer lots in early summer of 2021.
What’s new for 2022: The Chevrolet Bolt EV is all-new for 2022.
Features and technology: The Bolt EV can be had in two trims; 1LT and 2LT. The base 1LT model comes with Chevy Safety Assist, which includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision alert, lane-keeping assist with lane-departure warning, following distance indicator, IntelliBeam, and front pedestrian braking. You also get a nice 10.2-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard equipment.
Optional equipment for the Bolt includes heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, a surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic alert.
What does the future hold: Since the Chevrolet Bolt EV is all-new for 2022, we don’t expect any major changes in the near future. Since Super Cruise is available on the EUV, we’re hoping to see it available on the Bolt EV soon.
2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV
Base price: $33,995 / Read our 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV First Look
What we like: Available in 50 states; available Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system; nice interior space; standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
What we would change: No all-wheel drive option; Launch Edition is a bit pricey
Overview: The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV is an electric compact crossover. It’s not an SUV that’s capable of a lot of towing or off-roading, but it’s shaping up to be a good, practical crossover for on-road use. It has an extra three inches of backseat legroom compared to the Bolt EV and it’s a bigger vehicle overall.
The Bolt EUV is powered by the same electric drivetrain as the Bolt EV, but has an estimated range of 250 miles compared to the Bolt EV’s 259 miles. For the average driver, this 9-mile difference in range won’t make a big impact on daily driving.
We expect the Bolt EUV to arrive in dealerships in early summer 2021 alongside the new Bolt EV.
What’s new for 2022: The Chevrolet Bolt EUV is an all-new model for 2022.
Features and technology: The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV is available in three trims; LT, Premier, and Launch Edition. The base LT trim is well-appointed with the same Chevy Safety Assist system and infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay that comes on the Bolt EV 1LT. On top of that, every 2022 Bolt EUV comes standard with a dual-level charging cord that can be used in a standard 120-volt outlet or a 240-volt outlet for level 2 charging.
As of this writing, we don’t know a lot of specifics about the Premier trim. We do know that the Super Cruise hands-free semi-autonomous driving system will be optional on Premier. A few other options that we know will be available on the Bolt EUV include adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear outboard seats. We don’t know at this time which of these will be standalone options and which will be bundled with the Premier trim.
Finally, there’s the Launch Edition trim that we assume will be exclusive to the 2022 model. Launch Edition comes with Super Cruise, unique wheels, special badging, an illuminated charge port, and a panoramic power sunroof.
What does the future hold: The Chevrolet Bolt EUV is all-new for the 2022 model year, so we’re not sure what to expect for the future. We’re hoping to see all-wheel drive become an option eventually, but we think that’s unlikely.
