Both NASCAR and Firebird fans will find this car desirable. Racing buffs should appreciate the car's documented history as one of just 22 cars used as parade lap vehicles for the 2002 NAPA Auto Parts 500. Firebird devotees will appreciate the many performance upgrades that came with the WS6 package, including its six-speed manual transmission and 325-horsepower 5.7 liter V8. Toss in the knowledge that this is only one of 2000 examples GM produced in recognition of the Firebird's 35th anniversary, and you'll realize that this is one rare ‘Bird.

"It's a loaded Trans Am with all of the memorabilia," says Travis Montague of Whisler Chevrolet in Rock Springs, Wyoming, where the car is offered for sale.

Montague said Whisler is selling the car on consignment for the current owner, who purchased it new 9 years ago and has put less than 8,000 miles on it since.

"He hardly drove it," Montague said adding that the car was always kept in a garage away from the elements. "The car speaks for itself. It's like brand new."

NASCAR drivers Ken Schrader and Jimmy Spencer both rode in the car during the pre-race parade lap, and there's a window sticker signed by both that comes with the documentation on the car. There's also a letter signed by a Pontiac official and the president of the California Speedway, now known as Auto Club Speedway, along with a photo of all of the cars on the track.

There's mystery that comes with this Trans Am, too.

The unknown thing about this particular car is the story behind the two different numbers that adorn the doors. The driver's side door wears number 49 and the passenger side sports number 50, each in a different font. No one, not even the current owner, knows what these numbers mean.

The numbers don't specifically relate to starting grid position in the race, or to certain famous NASCAR drivers from the past, and neither Schrader or Spencer raced under either set of numerals during the 2002 NAPA 500.

"We have people who collect the cars who can't tell us why there's two different numbers," Montague said.

A missing bit of information just adds to this muscle car's cachet and the vehicle's new owner will have the pleasure of tracking the history down.

This Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is currently listed for $30,000.
