How It Works

If your vehicle is listed for sale in a Private Seller Ad on Autotrader, you can get a Kelley Blue Book(SM) Instant Cash Offer (Program Terms and Conditions apply, not all vehicles eligible) and a refund for your ad. To be eligible for a refund, you must: 1) generate an Instant Cash Offer for the vehicle in your Private Seller Ad (“Ad”) while your Ad is live on Autotrader websites; 2) request your refund in Ad Manager and provide the Ad ID within 60 days of receiving your Instant Cash Offer but in no event later than 5 months after purchasing the Ad**; and 3) provide the name of the Participating Dealer where you redeemed the Offer.

Getting Started

Get your Instant Cash Offer by providing details about your car*. Eligible vehicles will get an actual Offer that is valid for 3 days (not counting Sundays). To be eligible for a refund, you must: 1) generate an Instant Cash Offer for the vehicle in your Private Seller Ad (“Ad”) while your Ad is live on Autotrader websites; 2) request your refund in Ad Manager and provide the Ad ID within 60 days of receiving your Instant Cash Offer but in no event later than 5 months after purchasing the Ad**; and 3) provide the name of the Participating Dealer where you redeemed the Offer. Upon confirmation of these steps, we will remove your Private Seller Ad and refund the fees you paid for the ad.

About Kelley Blue Book Instant Cash Offers

If your vehicle is eligible, we will give you a Kelley Blue Book Instant Cash Offer for your car* based on its specific details and condition. The Offer is based on trusted Blue Book® Values. Your Offer will be a real, fixed amount that is valid for 3 days (not counting Sundays) and can be redeemed at a Kelley Blue Book Instant Cash Offer Participating Dealer. Take your Offer and car, along with all necessary information with you to the Participating Dealer so the dealer can inspect your vehicle and verify the details* you provided to generate your Instant Cash Offer. You can then use your Offer toward the purchase of a new vehicle or let the Dealer buy your current car.

Obtaining a Refund

Once you have redeemed your Instant Cash Offer at a Participating Dealer, you can request a refund for your Private Seller Ad (“Ad”) while your Ad is live on our website. Refund requests must be received within 60 days of receiving your Instant Cash Offer but in no event later than 5 months after purchasing the Ad. To complete the Ad refund form you will need to provide the required information, including your Ad ID and the name of the Participating Dealer that redeemed your Offer. The fees paid for your ad will be refunded if you meet the requirements. Refunds must be requested within 5 months of purchase and processing will typically take 2-3 weeks to be returned to your credit card.

Why is my Car Ineligible for an Offer?

There are a variety of reasons why your car may not be eligible. Some possible reasons include, but are not limited to, title issues (salvage, grey market, taxis or limousines), market volatility, lack of market data, unresolved recalls, low value due to age or condition, aftermarket equipment, or if the vehicle has been at an auction within the last 45 days. To use the Offer and finalize the sale, bring the following information and required documents:

  • Your Kelley Blue Book Instant Cash Offer confirmation number, either on your phone or printed
  • Your vehicle title. If you don't have a title because your vehicle is financed, bring your lienholder information. If your car is leased, check with your leasing company to find out what paperwork is required.
  • Your vehicle registration
  • A valid driver's license or other government photo ID.
  • All keys, keyless remotes, manuals.
  • Service and repair records.
  • And don't forget to remove all personal items from the vehicle.
