The Soul has been offered in two primary engine choices, a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes a modest 122-130 horsepower and a 2.0-liter engine that generates between 142-161 horsepower. There has been a turbo-charged engine that produces upwards of 201 horses as well. Both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have rated the Soul highly in terms of safety over the years. The downside of the Soul is that it doesn't come in an all-wheel-drive version, the best driver-assist features are only offered in the higher-priced trim, and the fuel economy is just so-so. The Soul was revamped in 2020 to include such features as a 10.25-inch infotainment system, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto along with some design changes. Carried over from 2019 are features such as a panoramic sunroof, Harman/Kardon premium audio, adaptive cruise control and lane assist.
