As Toyota’s first pure electric vehicle (EV), the bZ4X is a milestone car. Sharing almost all its mechanicals with the <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/subaru/solterra">Subaru Solterra</a>, the bZ4X comes standard with front-wheel drive (FWD) and offers the option of all-wheel drive (AWD), whereas the Subaru makes all-wheel drive standard. This default gives the advantage to the bZ4X as it helps keep the price down and improves the Toyota EV’s range. While it can’t travel as far as some competitors, the bZ4X makes a sound commuter car backed by a brand known for its reliability, safety, and resale.

Toyota bZ4X (1st Generation: 2023 - Current)

Key Improvements: The bZ4X comes in two trims: XLE and Limited. Front-drive versions employ a single electric motor generating about 201 horsepower. The all-wheel-drive version adds a second electric motor at the rear axle, upping the output to 214 hp. The bZ4X can travel about 252 miles, which drops to around 222 miles with all-wheel drive. Standard driver-assist systems include forward collision warning and braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors with braking, and auto-high beam headlights. Standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a fixed glass panel roof, rain-sensing wipers, and proximity keyless entry. Available equipment includes a JBL audio system, heated and ventilated front seats, a foot-activated power tailgate, and a Digital Key that turns a smartphone into a key.

Model Updates: The 2024 bZ4X sees more features added. The XLE gets an 8-way power driver's seat and a power liftgate, while the Limited gains a self-parking feature for parallel and perpendicular parking.
