The 2024 Grand Highlander Hybrid comes in two flavors. The standard XLE and Limited hybrid models feature a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and electric motor (or motors when ordering all-wheel drive) good for 245 horsepower. That’s just 20 horsepower less than the non-hybrid Highlander, but with vastly better fuel economy, touting 37 mpg city for the hybrid versus 21 for the gas-only model. The MAX Limited and MAX Platinum trims combine a 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor setup for a combined 362 hp. The fuel economy does dip a bit, but the combined fuel economy remains a few miles per gallon better than the non-hybrid <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/toyota/grand-highlander">Toyota Grand Highlander</a>.

What's New for 2024:

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid debuts with an additional 6.5 inches added to its length; it's also wider and taller, making it easy to fit up to eight passengers and all their luggage. 


<a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/new-cars/hybrid/2024/toyota/grand-highlander/xle">2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid XLE</a>: The first of four trims, the XLE is the only one powered by its front wheels with the option of AWD. It’s basic transportation and the best choice for those pinching pennies. Standard features include a robust set of driver-assists, including forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high beams. The XLE has a power liftgate, front wiper de-icers, a proximity keyless entry system, heated side mirrors, and 18-inch wheels. The cabin touts a 10-way power driver’s seat and 8-way power passenger seat (both heated), second-row captain’s chair seating, tri-zone automatic climate control, and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other unexpected features include rear door sunshades, a wireless charging pad, and USB-C charge ports in all three rows. The XLE’s only options are a panoramic moonroof and a second-row bench seat.

Building off the XLE, the Limited adds LED fog lights, 20-inch wheels, power-folding side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, and a foot-activated power liftgate. The Limited adds front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking on the driver-assist front. Also standard is a heated steering, a 12.3-inch configurable digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, heated and cooled front seats, heated second-row seats, and driver’s seat memory. Leather upholstery replaces the XLE’s synthetic fabric, and an 11-speaker JBL audio system improves the music quality. Options for the Limited include a panoramic moonroof, a second-row bench seat, and a panoramic 360-degree monitor.

2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX Limited: The MAX features a more powerful hybrid engine setup, delivering better performance for passing, merging, and towing, but at the cost of fuel economy. In addition to Drive Mode Select, <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/toyota">Toyota</a> adds the Multi-Terrain Select system with settings for Mud &amp; Sand, Rock &amp; Dirt, and Normal. The MAX Limited is nearly identical to the Limited trim, adding features like dual exhaust, steering wheel paddle shifters, and two-tone 20-inch alloy wheels. The MAX upholstery changes to leather with Ultrasuede inserts. Neither Max trim offers the 8-passenger bench seat option.

2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX Platinum: The MAX Platinum trim pushes the Grand Highlander close to Lexus-level luxury, touting most of the other trim’s optional equipment, including the panoramic moonroof and Panoramic View Monitor. Building off the MAX Limited, the MAX Platinum adds unique 20-inch two-tone wheels, front cross-traffic detection, Traffic Jam Assist (can steer, brake, and accelerate in heavy traffic at speed up to 25 mph), heated and ventilated second-row seats, a head-up display, profile facial recognition, and a digital rearview mirror.
