CPO 2017 Infiniti Q50: Long-Term Introduction

We have a new member of our test fleet: It’s a certified pre-owned 2017 Infiniti Q50 , and we already think it might just be one of the best values in its class. Our CPO Q50 combines good looks with a muscular turbocharged V6 and sporty handling similar to what you would expect from BMW, at a price less than what you would probably expect. Its aggressive fascia just screams “Look at me!!!” in a manner that commands attention, while not being quite as divisive as some other luxury manufacturers (I’m looking at you, Lexus). Not only does the Q50 turn heads, but there’s also a ton of technology and safety features to make the driving experience all the better. Combine that with the benefits of purchasing a vehicle under Infiniti’s great CPO program and you have one heck of a car that’s easier on your wallet, all while providing the peace of mind of a brand-new car.

Why We Got It

There are several reasons why we decided to add a certified pre-owned Q50 to our test fleet in addition to its striking good looks. First, we tend to think that when purchasing a luxury vehicle, certified pre-owned just makes sense. Luxury cars can be expensive to fix, so not only does every Infiniti go through a 167-point inspection, but they also come with a warranty just in case anything does decide to malfunction. All covered repairs are made with OEM factory parts, and even better, with no deductible.

Aside from Infiniti’s generous CPO program benefits, there are initial savings compared to buying a new model. We got our Q50 with less than 6,000 miles on the odometer, which, in essence, is virtually new. The average cost of a comparably equipped CPO Q50 sport with similar mileage on Autotrader is about $39,000. Compare that with its sticker price of $55,520 when it was sold, and you can see the huge savings of over $15,000 in opting for a year-old certified pre-owned Q50 in lieu of a brand-new one.

Our Q50

The Q50 has several different trim levels, but we decided to go with the Sport trim and all-wheel drive. Our model features a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine pumping out 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, more than enough to make your morning commute just a little bit spicy.

In addition to its robust powerplant, our Q50 came very well-equipped with several packages loaded with features. The first of these is the Technology package, which includes features like intelligent cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-departure prevention, adaptive headlights, high-beam assist, blind spot monitoring and front pre-crash seat belts. Also included on our 2017 Q50 is the Driver Assistance package, which features the around-view monitor, front and rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning with forward-emergency braking, and backup-collision intervention with rear cross-traffic alert. The fancy-sounding Premium Plus package is also included on our Q50, which brings remote start, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, Sirius XM Traffic and Infiniti InTouch.

Early Impressions

The 2017 Infiniti Q50 is a blast to drive with its selectable driving modes that each create a completely different experience behind the wheel. Whether you’re in the mood to casually motor while the engine sips fuel, or turn up and let the turbo V6 loose on an empty highway, there is likely a mode for you. In addition, the included semi-autonomous features have been a great help — especially on a recent short road trip. They make the journey that much more enjoyable, as they allow drivers to appreciate the scenery around them a little bit more. The Infiniti is far from perfect, however, as the interior cabin leaves a little bit to be desired and the driver’s seat can be uncomfortable after a few hours of travel.

Over the next few months, our Q50 will be bringing Autotrader staffers to work, shuttling kids to school and going on road trips to explore this beautiful country of ours. We’ll let you know where it’s strong, where it’s mediocre and where it needs some improvement — all to help you make the most informed purchasing decision possible. Find a Certified Pre-owned Infiniti Q50 for sale
