Mitsubishi’s certified pre-owned (CPO) warranty reinstates the 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty that’s typically lost when a Mitsubishi is sold to its second owner. It also includes roadside assistance and the balance of the original 5-year or 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. And there’s no deductible.
What We Like
Long coverage term; no deductible; especially impressive powertrain warranty
What We Don’t
Warranty starts from original sale date; nontransferable to future owners
Mitsubishi’s certified pre-owned warranty is one of the best in the business, thanks to its impressive coverage term and the fact that there’s no deductible for repairs.
Let’s start with that coverage term: When a Mitsubishi is typically sold to a second owner, it loses its 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, instead reverting back to its 5-year or 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper plan. A certified pre-owned Mitsubishi, however, retains that powertrain warranty, boasting 10 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain coverage from the car’s original sale date.
It gets better. Also included with Mitsubishi’s CPO warranty is the balance of the car’s 5-year or 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper coverage. In other words, if you buy a 2-year-old certified pre-owned Mitsubishi with 25,000 miles on the odometer, you’ll be covered by the bumper-to-bumper warranty for 3 years or 35,000 miles and by the powertrain warranty for 8 years or 75,000 miles. And there’s no deductible, which means you won’t have to pay a cent for warranty repairs when you bring in your CPO Mitsubishi for service.
There are, however, a couple of small drawbacks to Mitsubishi’s CPO plan. For one, the warranty starts from the original sale date and not the purchase date, which can be confusing for a second or third owner. Additionally, the extra powertrain warranty can’t be transferred to a new owner should you decide to sell your Mitsubishi before the coverage term has expired.
Still, we’re impressed with Mitsubishi’s certified pre-owned warranty, and we recommend taking a look at a CPO model if you’re thinking about buying a used Mitsubishi.
