If you are interested in a used Mini, you might want to consider a model covered by the Mini certified pre-owned (CPO) program. These are cars offering some factory-backed assurances, warranty coverage and added-value perks. Mini actually offers two levels of CPO warranty protection. Particular strengths of the Mini CPO program are its unlimited mileage warranty and its 24-hour roadside assistance.

Program Specifics

Mini only considers cars less than 5 years old with fewer than 60,000 miles on the odometer for its CPO program. Mini then subjects them to a rigorous inspection by a factory-trained technician. Any issues discovered during that inspection are fixed using factory parts.

Mini actually offers two CPO programs for qualifying cars. One adds 1-year with unlimited miles to the original 4-years or 50,000-miles new-car bumper-to-bumper limited warranty when it expires. If the original warranty coverage is already expired, the CPO warranty begins on the CPO purchase date. Mini also offers a second-tier CPO warranty of 2 years with unlimited mileage. The CPO buyer may choose between the two coverages. Cost varies according to the Mini model being purchased. Mini no longer charges a deductible for covered repairs.

Beyond the warranty coverage, Mini provides other benefits including 24-hour roadside assistance, free scheduled maintenance, transfer of coverage to another buyer for a $200 fee, special factory-sponsored financing and a 3-months satellite-radio subscription.

By in large, the Mini certified pre-owned program provides a lot of value. The unlimited-miles feature of the warranties is a big plus to those who drive a lot. Although increasing coverage from 5 years to 6 years more than doubles the cost of the CPO protection, it also adds a year to the roadside-assistance and free scheduled-maintenance provisions. We think that’s a pretty good deal.
