For those who want an iconic two-seater that accelerates like a jet, the 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 is on the short list. Few cars can boast such impressive numbers (12 cylinders, 0-60 times in the low 3s, a price tag over $300,000), and even fewer can deliver such a stirring driving experience. The exhaust note alone is practically worth the price of admission.
Lamborghini upped the ante with their 2007 Murcielago lineup by boring out the 2006's 6.2L V12 powerplant. The engine now displaces 6.5L, with power correspondingly increasing to 632 horsepower. The LP640 is now one of the fastest production cars ever built, and exterior styling has been tweaked for improved aerodynamics. The suspension system has also been revised to cope with the huge amounts of power being transferred from the engine to the wheels, as have the brakes and transmission.
Lamborghini revised their marquee model, the Murcielago, for 2007. Rechristened the Murcielago LP640, the all-wheel-drive coupe uses a 6.5L V12 engine to produce 632 horsepower for the U.S. market (as opposed to 640 horsepower in Euro spec). The unit is mid-mounted longitudinally and features variable valve timing, dry-sump lubrication, and four valves per cylinder.
