How Much Does a 2021 BMW X3 Cost?

The 2021 BMW X3 is available in sDrive30i, xDrive30i, xDrive30e, M40i and M configurations. The sDrive30i ($43,000 plus $995 destination charge) comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights/daytime running lights/fog lights, roof rails, a powered tailgate, power-folding/heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, self-dimming rearview and driver-side mirrors, selectable driving modes, tri-zone automatic climate control, 10-way power-adjustable front seats (including bolsters) with driver-side memory settings, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dark oak wood trim, 40/20/40 split-folding and reclining rear seats, SensaTec simulated leather upholstery, navigation, parking sensors in the front and rear, forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, an iDrive electronics interface (featuring an 8.8-in infotainment touchscreen and a button-knob controller in the center console), two USB ports, a 12-speaker audio system with satellite and HD Radio, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration. The xDrive30i ($45,000) has the same equipment but adds AWD with hill descent control. An optional Convenience package adds keyless entry, a panoramic sunroof, and 4-way adjustable lumbar support. The Premium package includes a heads-up display, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and hands-free tailgate. The Executive package includes everything from the Premium package plus gesture control (which allows some infotainment functions to be controlled by hand movements), the Live Cockpit Pro (fully digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch touchscreen), Parking Assistance with a 360-degree camera system, enhanced front/rear parking sensors, and an automated parking feature, ambient cabin lighting and automatic high beams. The xDrive30e ($49,600), includes the Live Cockpit Pro in addition to its sophisticated hybrid powertrain. The M40i ($56,600) adds the more powerful 6-cylinder engine, Live Cockpit Professional, sport exhaust, 19-in alloy wheels, upgraded brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, variable-ratio steering, a special M Sport styling, automatic high beams, 14-way power-adjustable front sport seats, hands-free tailgate operation, and everything from the Convenience package. The M40i’s Premium package is essentially the same as the 30i’s counterpart, but heated seats in the front and rear cost extra. The Executive package is similar and requires the Premium package selection. The X3 M ($69,900) is the high-performance X3 model with a twin-turbo 6-cylinder engine, upgraded brakes, suspension, transmission and other hardware, and 20-inch wheels. It also includes leather upholstery, Harman/Kardon audio system and carbon fiber interior trim. The Competition Package adds 30 horsepower, 21-inch wheels an M Sport exhaust. Optional on all models is the Driving Assistance Plus package with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and automatic emergency braking up to higher speeds. Many extras can be added individually, which is one of several reasons why special-ordering a BMW is a good idea. Other options include a space-saving spare tire, ventilated front seats, rear sunshades, wireless smartphone charging, wi-fi and a Harman Kardon 16-speaker surround-sound system. X3s may also come with adaptive suspension, although tuning differs by model.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 a Safe Car?

Every X3 comes standard with anti-lock brakes that automatically dry the pads in wet weather plus front side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and BMW Assist eCall emergency services, which includes automatic crash notification and an emergency services request button. Standard active safety features include the Active Guard system with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking at city speeds. Now standard for 2021 is the formerly optional Active Driving Assistant. That adds lane-departure warning and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Optional are active cruise control with stop and go and lane-keeping assistance. The X3 earns a 5-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the X3 its highest accolade of Top Safety Pick Plus after it earned maximum scores in every major category.

2021 BMW X3 vs the competition

2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC — This German rival has softer looks and slightly softer manners, but also drips with technology and prestige. Mercedes-AMG variants pack a real punch. 2020 Audi Q5 — Another German competitor, the Q5 has an excellent balance between comfort and dynamics, and comes standard with all-wheel drive. The SQ5 is a higher-performance model. 2020 Acura RDX — Acura’s compact luxury SUV offers a sophisticated all-wheel drive system, great technology and a substantially lower price tag. 2020 Lexus NX – This Lexus also arrives at a lower price than the X3 and boasts comfortable road manners. Used BMW X5 – If you want more space but BMW’s wonderful dynamics, look to the X5. Note that the latest generation debuted in 2019, and that models before that are the prior generation (but also less expensive).
