2017 Kia Sorento: 4 Points

I’ve been spending a lot of quality time with Autotrader’s 2017 Kia Sorento, mostly in the form of daily commuting, trips to the airport and picking my daughter up from grade school. When you’re sitting in the pickup/drop-off lane waiting patiently, you quickly learn to love or loathe the car you’re in.

Seating

One thing I really like is the Sorento’s seats. On the SX version we have, the driver’s seat has a seat-bottom extender. This means the seat bottom can be moved forward so it comes right up against the back of your calf, just below the knee. Many BMW cars and SUVs have this, and it has always been one of my favorite features. Nice to have it on a Kia SUV.

Minus

Something I don’t care for is that I think the transmission is too noisy. It’s not irritating or offensive, but given how deluxe the Sorento feels, this one thing is a noticeable detraction from an otherwise peaceful demeanor.

Luxury Perks

Big thumbs up for the Infinity sound system. Deep bass and well-defined highs make watching the clock strike 2:45 every Thursday and Friday (usually my days for kid pickup) fairly painless.

Big props for the huge sunroof. Lately, the weather in North Georgia has been amazing, with highs in the low 70s and miles of thick tree line about to change colors for fall.

Aside from all this, there’s one thing the 2017 Kia Sorento does that, for me, is the equal to a match-winning backhand deep into enemy territory. The real trick of the Sorento is far less dramatic — it simply works. Day in, day out, it just does the job without complaint. It’s comfortable, quiet, good-looking and has intelligent tech and an affordable price. If what you’re really after is a companion, a trusty tool to fight life’s most mundane battles and to do so with a little style, buy a Kia Sorento. You will not be disappointed. Find a 2017 Kia Sorento for sale
