2017 Subaru Impreza Sport: It’s a Grower

Over the last three months, I’ve had some harsh criticism about our long-term 2017 Subaru Impreza Sport. In particular, the continuously variable transmission can be a bit jerky when downshifting in city driving or heavy traffic. Lately, this issue doesn’t seem as bad. Maybe it’s because I’ve put in some serious time driving the Impreza Sport and have learned how to drive it in a way that reduces the lurching and shuddering. To be honest, the Impreza Sport has definitely grown on me.

And why wouldn’t it? Our Impreza Sport looks great in Lithium Red with its 18-inch gray alloy wheels. And the rocker spoilers and rear trunk spoiler add to the Impreza Sport’s energetic looks. Inside, the sportiness continues with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter and aluminum-alloy pedal covers. And while we’re on the subject of the interior, the Impreza Sport comes standard with Bluetooth connectivity, an 8-inch multimedia screen, and heated seats.

At $26,902, the 2017 Subaru Impreza Sport is quite a bargain. This price includes the optional CVT transmission and Option Package 23. Included in the package is Subaru’s EyeSight which contains a host of great safety features. These include pre-collision braking and pre-collision throttle management system, lane-departure and sway warning, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert. This package also includes a power moonroof and 432-watt 8-speaker Harman Kardon speaker system.

During the last couple weeks, I’ve averaged 30 miles per gallon in combined city and highway driving. That’s on par with the EPA’s 30 mpg combined rating. On a recent drive to Savannah, Georgia, I averaged 36 mpg.

At one point, I felt that with the transmission woes I’ve encountered, I wouldn’t consider the Impreza Sport as a potential car to purchase. However, after some serious time behind the wheel, I’ve come to really like this car. I’m hoping to get a lot more time behind the wheel before we lose the keys to this sporty midsize sedan. Find a 2017 Subaru Impreza for sale
