Chrysler is celebrating 35 years of the minivan, a segment that the brand proudly created in 1984.
Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth minivans have reached more than 14.6 million families worldwide.
The 1984 Dodge Caravan might not be the most exciting or exotic vehicle, but it did completely change the automotive landscape when it came out. It was the very first minivan that was innovative for having the passenger and cargo space of a van with car like driveability. Previously, vans were more like commercial vehicles and the minivan made the van more family-friendly.
Eventually, copycats came about and the minivan segment boomed, becoming the default family hauler. Over the years, Chrysler remained a minivan innovator with the Chrysler Town and Country, Dodge Caravan and Grand Caravan, and the Plymouth Voyager. Today, Chrysler continues to be a leader in the minivan segment with the Pacifica, while still offering the affordable Dodge Grand Caravan.

Chrysler says that its minivans over the years have reached more than 14.6 million families worldwide. These humble family haulers have certainly made their mark on the car industry and although the segment is declining, we have a feeling Chrysler minivans will be around for many more years to come.
