The 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR and Tacoma SR5 are closely related versions of Toyota’s best-selling midsize pickup truck. These are the key differences between them:
Engine and Performance:
By default, the Tacoma SR has a 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder i-Force engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, which produces 228 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque. A 278-hp, 317-lb-ft engine variant is available on models with a Double Cab. The SR Double Cab is available with a 6-speed manual transmission, which is rated for 270 hp and 310 lb-ft.
The Tacoma SR5 gets the 278-horsepower i-Force turbocharged 4-cylinder engine as standard equipment.

The Tacoma SR is rated to tow 3,500 pounds and, depending on configuration, has a payload capacity of about 1,400 pounds.
The Tacoma SR5 is rated to tow up to 6,500 pounds and has a payload capacity of about 1,700 pounds, again, depending on bed and cab configuration.

The Tacoma SR5 can be ordered with both of the SR’s bed and cab options or with a third: a Double Cab with a 6-foot bed.
