Which Is the Best Model-Year Used Kia EV6?
We’d go with the 2023 or 2024 EV6, as these years seem to have fewer owner complaints. Still, for all of its first generation, the EV6 does have a few recalls you should be sure have been attended to before you purchase. In its first year, the 2022 EV6 had a few problems that would make it our least favorite choice.

Kia EV6 by Model Year: What Do You Get?
First Generation (2022-current)
Still in its first generation, the Kia EV6 hasn’t changed much over its short life span. Upon launch, Kia offered the EV6 in three trims: Light, Sport, and GT-Line. In the coming years, Kia expanded the lineup with more options based on range and speed. The rear-wheel-drive Light trim (only offered in California initially) is the least powerful, with a 58-kilowatt-hour battery, 167 horsepower, and a 232-mile range. It also carries the lowest sticker price. A used Light makes sense for someone who doesn’t travel long distances and doesn’t need rocket-ship-like acceleration or fancy add-ons. For 2025, the EV6 gets larger battery packs for increased range and the ability to use a Tesla Supercharger thanks to a new factory-installed NACS charge port. Kia estimates the new setup increases the range to 319 miles.
Standard highlights for the EV6 Light include 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, a 12.3-inch digital display, a wireless charging pad, navigation, and an 8-way power-adjustable memory driver’s seat with 2-way power lumbar support. Also standard are heated front seats, automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch touchscreen featuring wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Smart Key keyless entry. Standard driver assists include forward collision warning with emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, automatic high beams, a driver attention monitor, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and Highway Driving Assist.
The Wind and GT-Line are probably better choices, as they offer the option of all-wheel drive and have a larger 77-kWh battery pack, which bumps horsepower to 225 and range to 310 miles (274 miles with AWD).
With the Wind, you’ll get more features, such as heated and ventilated front seats, a 14-speaker Meridian audio system, a power liftgate, a vehicle-to-load (V2L) connector, and, on all-wheel-drive models, a heat pump that helps preserve range when the weather turns cold. Notable options include a surround-view monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor, remote smart park assist, and a heated steering wheel.
The first generation GT-Line builds off the Wind, adding 20-inch wheels, Highway Driving Assist 2, pop-out flush door handles, a power sunroof, a head-up display, and all the Wind’s optional driver-assist equipment.
The GT trim brings dual electric motors producing 576 hp but a limited range of 206 miles. It also gets larger brakes, sport seats, a GT drive mode, a GT drift mode, a sport suspension, and unique interior and exterior GT styling cues.

Model Year Changes
2025: The EV6 gets a slight refresh with a new grille and headlight treatment. Battery sizes increase to 63 kWh for the standard unit and 84 kWh as the upgrade. The EV6 gains a NACS charge port, making it compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network. Production moves from South Korea to Kia’s West Point, Georgia, plant.
2024: The Light trim returns and includes a Long-Range version with the same battery as the Wind and GT-Line. The GT adds 12 additional miles to its range, bringing the total to 218. All EV6 models get a redesigned charge port.
2023: Kia adds the sporty GT trim but drops the entry-level Light trim, while the Wind RWD trim gains more optional equipment.
Is the Kia EV6 a Good Car?
As electric SUVs go, the EV6 is pretty good. It has sharp styling, a plethora of advanced safety systems, excellent range, and something most of its competition lacks: a long warranty. Kia’s adaptor is designed for compatibility with the Kia EVs, including the EV6. Using other adaptors may result in voiding the vehicle warranty for adaptor-specific repairs.
How Long Does the EV6 Battery Last?
Expect a Kia EV6’s battery to last between 10 and 20 years. Around the 10-year mark, the battery should still work but may begin to suffer degradation, meaning it will hold less and less of its charge over time. Other conditions that may shorten battery life include improper maintenance, overcharging, and extreme temperatures. What Are the Most Reliable Years for the Kia EV6?
The best years for the EV6 are 2023 and newer. There are also a few recalls covering all model years up to 2024 involving issues with the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failing to charge the 12-volt battery. Other recalls include a possible defect in one of the drive shafts and an issue with the parking brake that could lead to a vehicle rollaway.
