What Is the Best Model-Year Used Ford Mustang Mach-E 

As the Mustang Mach-E is still in its first generation, there are only a few years to choose from. We’d opt for either a 2023 or newer for a few reasons. These models have improved range (up to 290 miles for the Premium AWD and up to 320 miles for the Mach-E Premium RWD) and more access to Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving assist. The 2024 Mach-E opens the door to Tesla Supercharger compatibility and a new Rally package featuring a taller ride height and unique styling. But, even if you go with a 2021 or 2022, you’ll still have all the most essential Mach-E attributes.

Ford Mustang Mach-E by Model Year: What Do You Get?

First Generation: 2021-Current

Debuting in 2021, the Mustang Mach-E hasn’t seen drastic changes. That makes it easy to save some money by buying an older version and not feeling like you’re missing out. Ford offers the Mach-E in several trims, including Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT. All but the GT offers the option of rear-wheel (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

In its first year, the base Select trim’s 68-kWh battery pack delivers around 230 miles of range or 211 miles with all-wheel drive. An 88-kWh extended-range battery option for the Premium trim bumps range to 300 and 270, respectively. The all-wheel-drive GT uses an extended-range battery and larger electric motors, sacrificing some range for quicker acceleration.

The Mustang Mach-E comes nicely equipped, even on the entry-level Select trim. Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated side mirrors, an 8-way power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, E-Latch push-button door openers, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a massive 15.5-inch center touchscreen. The SYNC 4A infotainment setup includes navigation, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.

Co-Pilot360 2.0 features rear parking sensors, forward collision avoidance and braking, reverse sensing, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, intersection assist, traffic sign recognition, VR navigation, evasive steering assist, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams.

Moving to the Premium trim brings a memory driver’s seat, a power passenger seat, ambient lighting, a fixed panoramic glass roof, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a 360-degree camera, and a 9-speaker B&O audio system. Options for the Premium include an extended-range battery and all-wheel drive.

The GT includes most of the Premium trim features but adds standard all-wheel drive, more powerful electric motors, and 20-inch wheels.

The California Route 1 splits the difference, offered only with rear-wheel drive and the extended range battery.

After 2022, Ford’s BlueCruise semi-autonomous driving assist becomes optional (labeled as Active Driving Assist Prep Package on the 2021 car).

Model-Year Changes

2025: Ford moves the transmission shifter to the steering column, enhances BlueCruise, and lowers the Mach-E’s price.
2024: The Mach-E gets Tesla Supercharger compatibility and a new Rally version.
2023: The Premium AWD has its range extended to 290 miles, BlueCruise is offered on Select, and the GT gets a fixed panoramic glass roof.
2022: California Route 1 gains heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and the option of all-wheel drive. BlueCruise arrives as an option.

Is the Ford Mustang Mach-E a Good Car?

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a pretty good SUV overall. Owners seem happy with its performance, range, and overall interior comfort.

Early models did experience more than their fair share of software-related glitches, which have been addressed and shouldn’t be an issue. Ford has an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty on the battery. Ford says the Mach-E’s battery pack should last about 10 years or 200,000 miles, after which it may begin to experience degradation, meaning it will hold less of a charge and experience diminished range.
