Overview
The latest Cadillac certified pre-owned (CPO) program took effect with certified units sold on or after March 1, 2017. The warranty adds up to another 2 years of coverage on top of the factory 4-year/50,000-mile warranty, and extends to a maximum of 100,000 miles. The program is still fully transferable to another private party and there is no deductible for each covered repair. However, the Cadillac CPO fails to provide complimentary maintenance (during the warranty period) for such operations as oil changes, tire rotation, engine air-filter replacement and cabin air-filter replacement.
What We Like
Up to 6 years and 100,000 miles of additional coverage; no deductible; fully transferable
What We Don't
CPO warranty doesn't include any sort of complimentary scheduled maintenance; no trip interruption coverage
Program Specifics
If you're thinking about buying a used luxury car, you might want to consider a certified pre-owned Cadillac. Eligible Cadillac vehicles cannot be more than 4 years old or have more than 50,000 miles and must receive a 172-point inspection before achieving Cadillac pre-owned status. The manufacturer-backed warranty covers most major components for up to 6 years or 100,000 miles, adding peace of mind. However, it’s always a good idea to check with your Cadillac dealer to see exactly what is and isn’t covered by the extended warranty.
Cadillac's newlatest certified pre-owned plan remains fully transferable should you decide to sell your CPO Cadillac to another driver before the warranty expires. It also comes standard with a 3-month free trial subscription to SiriusXM radio, along with a 3-month subscription to GM's useful OnStar system, which brings automatic crash response, OnStar vehicle diagnostics, turn-by-turn directions and the OnStar Remote Link mobile app. There's also 24-hour roadside assistance, along with a free vehicle-history report. Cadillac will also provide certified pre-owned customers with a loaner vehicle or rental-car reimbursement when getting warrantied repairs.
We think Cadillac's certified pre-owned warranty is fairly competitive with those of other luxury makes (even though it doesn't offer unlimited mileage, as do Lexus, BMW and Mercedes-Benz for their certified pre-owned vehicles) and makes sense for those who want to move up to a luxury car (maybe for the first time) but are worried about the higher-than-average cost of ownership generally associated with luxury cars.
