Ram’s certified pre-owned (CPO) program is roughly identical to CPO programs offered by other Chrysler brands. A certified pre-owned Ram’s powertrain warranty is extended to 7 years or 100,000 miles, which is an increase of 2 years over the standard powertrain warranty. The program also includes a 3-month or 3,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that starts when the original bumper-to-bumper warranty ends or on the date you buy the car if the warranty has already expired. Ram’s program also offers full transferability to the next owner, though it includes a $100 deductible.
What We Like
Full transferability; long warranty coverage; special financing rates
What We Don’t
Steep deductible; very short bumper-to-bumper warranty; powertrain warranty begins on truck’s original sale date, which can be confusing
If you’re interested in buying a used truck, you may want to consider a Ram with a certified pre-owned warranty. You’ll get the excellent peace of mind that comes with owning a vehicle with a manufacturer-backed warranty without having to pay a steep price for a new model.
The most important portion of Ram’s CPO program is its powertrain coverage. Ram’s certified pre-owned program offers up to 7 years or 100,000 miles of coverage, which is an increase of 2 years over the brand’s standard 5-year or 100,000-mile warranty. Also available is a bumper-to-bumper warranty, which lasts for 3 months or 3,000 miles once the original warranty expires. If the original warranty is already expired when you buy your CPO Ram, then the 3-month warranty begins on your purchase date.
Although we like Ram’s excellent powertrain warranty, the 3-month bumper-to-bumper plan is mediocre at best. Few bumper-to-bumper programs offer less coverage, as most tout an additional 1 year or more of factory coverage from the date the original warranty ends.
We’re also not especially fond of the fact that using Ram’s certified pre-owned warranty means forking over a $100 deductible for every repair visit. We do, however, like that the program is fully transferable to the next owner, which means the warranty coverage will still be active if you sell your truck before the warranty has expired. Other pluses include 3-month satellite-radio trial and 24/7 roadside assistance, as well as rental-car allowance and trip-interruption benefits during covered repairs.
Our take: Ram’s certified pre-owned warranty is only average when compared to that of rivals., It offers offering strong powertrain coverage, a mediocre bumper-to-bumper warranty and a disappointingly high deductible. But it’s still worth considering if you want the peace of mind that comes from owning a truck with a manufacturer-backed warranty. Find a CPO Ram for sale
