Ford Certified Pre-Owned Program

Overview

Ford’s certified pre-owned (CPO) warranty extends the factory powertrain coverage to 7 years or 100,000 miles from the car’s original sale date. It also offers 12 months or 12,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage. And while Ford’s certified warranty is fully transferable to the next owner, it includes a steep deductible of $100 per visit.

What We Like

Long powertrain coverage; additional bumper-to-bumper warranty; fully transferable; special financing rates

What We Don’t

Steep deductible; bumper-to-bumper warranty doesn’t last long; powertrain coverage starts from original sale date, not CPO purchase date

Program Specifics

If you’re looking for a used Ford, you might want to consider the automaker’s certified pre-owned program, which offers a manufacturer-backed warranty for used Ford models up to 5 years old and with no more than 80,000 miles on the odometer.

The crown jewel of Ford’s certified pre-owned warranty is its powertrain coverage, which lasts for up to 7 years or 100,000 miles from the car’s original sale date. That’s an increase of 2 years and 40,000 miles over the original factory warranty. The program also offers a 1-year or 12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that starts on either the vehicle purchase date (if the car’s original warranty has expired) or at the conclusion of the original bumper-to-bumper warranty (if that warranty is still in effect).

Ford’s CPO program has a couple of other bright spots: Not only does it provide 24/7 roadside assistance, but it’s also fully transferable to the next owner, and the automaker often touts special financing rates on CPO cars. That can make some certified pre-owned vehicles far more attractive than used vehicles, which are usually available with higher interest rates than new models.

While these are impressive benefits, Ford’s CPO program has one major drawback: a $100 deductible per service visit. That’s far more expensive than rival CPO warranties from brands such as Chevrolet and Honda that have no deductible, or Toyota,  that charges only $50.

Still, we suggest taking a look at Ford’s certified pre-owned warranty if you’re interested in a used Ford. It’ll offer extra peace of mind for years to come.
