2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E returns with its Premium grade receiving a bump in range to 290 miles. Ford is also making its Co-Pilot360 suite of safety and driver-aid technologies standard for all trims. The other notable enhancement? Ford has added a fixed-glass panoramic roof to all but the base Select grade.

If you are a fan of the piston-powered Mustang coupe, you won’t find much in common with the Mach-E other than “Mustang” in the name and the running-pony logo. An all-electric crossover, the Mach-E is more about fulfilling its electric vehicle (EV) role in the Ford lineup than furthering the Mustang legend. The Mach-E’s four trim levels (Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT) cover a scope of needs from long-range to sporty performance.

Swimming in waters populated with the Tesla Model Y, Audi e-tron, and Jaguar I-Pace, the Mach-E holds its own in the spirited-driving department. This is particularly true of the GT with its $6,000 performance battery.

We like the Mach-E for its sporty driving nature, roomy and well-appointed interior, and bigger-than-expected front trunk (frunk). We are equally impressed with its high level of technology.

The Select and Premium grades come with rear-wheel drive (RWD). A $2,700 upgrade on Select and Premium, all-wheel drive (AWD) is standard on California Route 1 and GT grades. Every Mach-E features three selective driving modes: Engage, Whisper, and one-pedal driving.

Let’s see how the four Mach-E grades differ.

2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Select ($46,895)

The Select and the Premium models get their go via a 70.0-kWh battery. It is good for an estimated maximum range of 247 miles with RWD (single motor) and 224 miles with AWD (dual motors). Motor output is 266 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. With AWD, the torque number jumps to 428 lb-ft.

The Select comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, active grille shutters, auto on/off LED headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 10.2-inch digital cluster screen. Also standard are faux-leather seating, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 60/40-split folding second-row seat.

An auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated power outboard mirrors with integrated turn signals, Ford MyKey, and a proximity keyless entry with push-button start are also included. To the standard list, you can add wireless smartphone charging and driver memory for the seats and outboard mirrors.

A 15.5-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 6-speaker audio system, and satellite-radio capability head up the infotainment system. Navigation is standard, too.

Ford also equips the Mach-E with its subscription-based FordPass Connect capability. When you activate it, it offers a Wi-Fi hot spot, Phone As a Key, a charging station locator, and more.

The Co-Pilot360 technologies include high-beam assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist with steering, rear cross-traffic alert, and rain-sensing wipers. Also standard is forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection. Rear-park assist, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and a surround-view camera are also standard.

Other than AWD, Ford doesn’t offer any factory-installed options.

Adding the $1,300 factory delivery fee to the Select base price brings the total to $48,195. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to about $866 per month. See 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Select models for sale near you

2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Select includes:

MyKey – This is Ford’s system for restricting certain behaviors like speeding for teen drivers. Each fob can be programmed with specific restrictions.

15.5-inch touchscreen – This massive portrait-oriented display controls nearly every operating system.

Proximity keyless entry – If the key fob is on your person, the doors automatically unlock when you approach the vehicle or touch the door handle. Push-button start is paired with proximity keyless entry.

2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium ($54,975)

The Premium uses the same powertrain as the Select grade. However, if you are willing to pay an extra $8,600 for the larger battery, you can increase the estimated range from 247 to 310 miles.

To the Select equipment, the Premium adds 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic fixed-glass roof, and an 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat. Upgraded LED projector headlights, power-folding outboard mirrors, and a B&O 10-speaker audio system by Bang & Olufsen are standard. Also included are a power rear liftgate, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. Memory for the driver’s seat and the outboard mirrors are standard as well.

Adding the delivery fee to the Premium base price equals $56,275. Financing for 60 months at 3% interest with no money down works out to a monthly payment of about $1,011. See 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium models for sale near you

2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium includes:

Power liftgate – Opening with a push of a button, this liftgate also includes a height adjustment.

B&O audio system – Featuring a subwoofer, this is a superb 10-speaker sound system.

Power-adjustable passenger seat – This power passenger seat features eight adjustments.

2023 Ford Mach-E California Route 1 ($63,575)

If you pony up the $8,600 for the RWD extended-range battery in the Premium grade, you’ll pay the same for the standard powertrain in the California Route 1: It’s a 91-kWh battery that delivers 346 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. It also provides the longest maximum estimated range for the Mach-E lineup with 312 miles, and it is AWD.

Take note: The California Route 1 content builds on the Select range. It gains a cargo cover, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and power-folding outboard mirrors but retains the 18-inch wheels. Also included is memory for the driver’s seat and outboard mirrors.

Adding the delivery fee to the California Route 1 base price totals $64,875. Using our no-money-down formula works out to a monthly payment of about $1,166. See 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 models for sale near you

2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 includes:

Larger battery – The AWD California Route 1 comes with a 91-kWh battery and up to 312 miles of range.

Driver memory – This system remembers the driver’s seat and outboard mirror settings for up to three drivers.

Heated seats – These help warm your bottom in frigid temperatures.

2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT ($69,895)

Also using the larger 91-kWh battery, the GT makes 480 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. Its estimated range is 270 miles. If you opt for the GT performance extended-range battery, the torque jumps to 634 lb-ft, but the range drops to 260 miles.

The GT also builds on the Select content by adding 20-inch alloy wheels, red-painted front and rear brake calipers, and a panoramic fixed-glass sunroof. Also included are front sport seats, an 8-way power adjustable passenger seat, LED projector headlights, and power-folding outboard mirrors. It also gets the 10-speaker B&O audio system, a power liftgate, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and driver memory.

Ford offers the GT Performance Edition Package ($6,000) on models with the performance battery. It’s mostly cosmetic, with different wheels, seating trim, and so forth.

Adding the $1,300 factory delivery fee to the GT base price equals $71,195. At 3% interest, financing for 60 months with no money down works out to about $1,279. See 2023 Mustang Mach-E GT models for sale near you
