Jeep Certified Pre-Owned Program

Overview

Jeep’s certified pre-owned (CPO) program offers two main benefits: a 3-month or 3,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that starts at the end-of-factory bumper-to-bumper coverage and a 2-year extension on the factory powertrain warranty that brings the total powertrain-coverage figure to 7 years or 100,000 miles.

What We Like

Additional powertrain warranty; fully transferable; special financing rates

What We Don’t

Extremely short bumper-to-bumper warranty; $100 deductible

Program Specifics

If you’re interested in buying a used Jeep, you may have the brand’s certified pre-owned program on your radar screen. After all, it offers additional factory warranty coverage and some other benefits over a typical used car. So what exactly does Jeep’s CPO plan entail?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t offer quite as much as most other CPO programs. Our biggest gripe relates to the subpar bumper-to-bumper warranty, which adds just 3 months or 3,000 miles of coverage to the standard factory warranty. That’s a really small figure considering that some automakers offer 3 or 4 additional years of coverage.

We’re also disappointed that you have to pay a $100 deductible every time you use the Jeep CPO warranty. While some luxury automakers have higher warranty deductibles than Jeep, no mainstream brand has a higher deductible, and many brands have no deductible at all.

Of course, there are a few enticing benefits offered by Jeep’s CPO warranty. The biggest is the program’s powertrain coverage, which extends to 7 years or 100,000 miles from the original purchase date. That’s an increase of 2 years over the original 5-year or 100,000-mile new-car warranty. Jeep’s CPO program also offers roadside assistance, a 3-month SiriusXM radio trial and a free Carfax vehicle-history report. Additionally, there’s 24/7 roadside assistance and a $35 per-day rental-car allowance for up to 5 days for covered repairs.

Still,  we’d like to see an additional 2 years of powertrain coverage — with no mileage increase — and a few other small benefits are hardly significant reasons to consider a certified pre-owned vehicle, especially considering the $100 deductible.
