Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX (9th Generation: 2006)

Building upon the success of the Evo VIII, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX features minor changes compared to its predecessor. At first glance, it might be difficult to differentiate the Evo IX from the Evo VIII, but there are a few key differences. The EVO IX has a Mitsubishi logo that appears to float in the grille, and the headlights have a darker housing. Around the back, the Evo IX has a diffuser that adds to the overall aggressive styling and helps improve aerodynamics.

Variable valve timing helps broaden the power band while squeezing every ounce of performance out of the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, which delivers 286 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque. Compared to early Evo VIII models, the Evo IX delivers an additional 15 horsepower (271 hp – 286 hp) and 16 lb-ft of torque (273 tq – 289 tq). The 5-speed manual transmission features closer ratios to stay within the optimal RPM range for better acceleration. 

Model Updates: For better or for worse, the Evo IX was only available in the United States for one model year, and no updates were made during the ninth generation. The limited production run makes an Evo IX tougher to find than the Evo VIII, which was produced for three years, and the <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/mitsubishi/lancer-evolution?endYear=2015&amp;startYear=2008">Evo X</a>, which had the longest run of the Evo models at eight years.
