2019 Ford Escape S - Buyers on a budget looking for basic transportation and minimum creature comforts.

2019 Ford Escape SE - Allows buyers to have more comfort features like heated seats and dual-zone automatic climate control while keeping the price tag well below $30,000. Considering the base price was only about $2,400 above the S and includes the upgraded turbocharged engine, the SE is quite a deal.

2019 Ford Escape SEL - Buyers who want just a little more than the SE provides. The power rear liftgate, rear park assist, and upgraded seat coverings are solid reasons for picking the SEL.

2019 Ford Escape Titanium - Buyers who want it all. As the Escape’s top trim level, Titanium provides the most content, as well as the utmost luxury available for Escape.

2019 Ford Escape Overview - The 2019 Ford Escape is about the same as the 2018 edition. We like its two turbocharged engines, comfy cabin, and nicely tuned suspension. Ford separates the Escape into four trim levels: S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. The S and Titanium each use a unique engine, while the SE and SEL share an engine. All three engines transfer power to the wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard for all trim levels, but the SE, SEL, and Titanium can add all-wheel drive (AWD) for $1,500. Which 2019 Ford Escape trim level is best? - The best value among Escape trim levels is the SE. It comes with such upgrades as a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry with push-button start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. When new, the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and the Safe and Smart Package loaded with driver aids were priced just under $30,000.

How many mpg does the 2019 Ford Escape get? - The best fuel economy nod goes to the SE and SEL with the 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. With FWD, it delivers 23 mpg city/30 mpg highway/26 mpg combined. AWD drops those numbers to 22 mpg/28 mpg/24 mpg. The S and Titanium are basically tied with their FWD mileage. The S delivers 21 mpg/29 mpg/24 mpg. The FWD Titanium drops 1 mpg from the highway number. With AWD, Titanium gets 20 mpg/27 mpg/23 mpg.

Which 2019 Ford Escape trim level is the safest? - The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated the 2019 Ford Escape in six crash/safety test scenarios. It received its best score of Good in four of them. Escape scored Acceptable in the Small overlap front: driver-side crash test and a score of Poor in the new Small overlap front: passenger-side test. Ford offers several advanced driver aids in its Safe and Smart Package for the SE and higher trims. It includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with brake support, and rain-sensing wipers. Also included are blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and a driver-alert system. Otherwise there isn’t much in the way of safety features beyond those mandated by the government: stability control, antilock brakes, and so forth. Rear-park assist shows up in the SEL and Enhanced Active Park Assist is standard in the Titanium.

2019 Ford Escape S - A 168-horsepower 4-cylinder engine motivates the S grade. Its government-estimated fuel economy in combined city and highway driving is 24 miles per gallon. Standard are 17-inch steel wheels, active grille shutters, a capless fuel filler, auto on-off halogen headlights, air conditioning, and four 12-volt power ports. A tilt-telescopic steering wheel, power accessories (door locks, outboard rearview mirrors, and windows), remote keyless entry, cruise control, and MyKey are also included. Within the infotainment system are the Ford SYNC interface, voice recognition, a 4.2-inch display, Bluetooth, a 6-speaker audio system, and a USB port. Key features of the 2019 Ford Escape S include:

Tilt-telescopic steering wheel – It allows the driver to set both the height and distance of the steering wheel.

MyKey – This is Ford’s system for restricting certain behaviors like speeding for teen drivers. Owners can program each fob with specific restrictions.

Remote keyless entry – You can unlock and lock the vehicle remotely when in range using the fob.

2019 Ford Escape SE - The SE gets the smaller of Escape’s two EcoBoost engines. It’s a 179-hp 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. Its combined mileage for FWD is 26 mpg. Opting for AWD decreases that to 24 mpg. To the SE, the SEL adds fog lights, front-rear skid plates, keyless entry with push-button start, remote start, and dual-zone automatic climate control. It includes heated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, an 8-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and satellite radio capability. Other standard features are Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, enhanced voice recognition, and an anti-theft alarm. Ford makes the Safe and Smart Package available on the SE and higher trims. It includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with brake support, rain-sensing wipers, and a wiper de-icer. Also part of the package are blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and a driver-alert system. Key features of the 2019 Ford Escape SE trim include:

Keyless entry – If the key fob is on your person, the doors automatically unlock when you touch the door handle. Push-button start pairs with keyless entry.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – These allow your smartphone to interface with your vehicle. You can access the music on your phone, send messages, receive messages, make calls, and so forth through your vehicle’s media system.

Dual-zone automatic climate control – A set-it-and-forget-it system, it divides the vehicle into left and right regions. It provides separate temperature settings for each region. Once set, it automatically maintains the preset temperatures.

2019 Ford Escape SEL - Building on the SE, the SEL adds a power rear liftgate, black roof rails, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a leather-wrapped gear shift knob. Also included are easy-to-clean faux-leather seating, heated outboard mirrors, LED daytime running lights, and rear park assist.

2019 Ford Escape Titanium - Ford arms the Titanium with its 245-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. With FWD, its combined mileage is 24 mpg. Adding AWD barely affects the combined mileage at 23 mpg. Titanium adds 19-inch aluminum wheels, a hands-free power rear liftgate, a windshield-wiper de-icer, a 110-volt power outlet, a heated steering wheel, and leather seats. Heated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable passenger seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, LED headlights, and integrated turn signals in the outboard mirrors are also standard. Other standard features are a 10-speaker audio system, a Homelink transceiver, and a navigation system. Ford also includes Enhanced Active Park Assist that can parallel park or reverse perpendicular park on its own. Key features of the 2019 Ford Escape Titanium include:

Enhanced Active Park Assist – This is an active parking system engineered to parallel and perpendicular park the vehicle without driver input.

Hands-free power liftgate – With the key fob on your person, swipe your foot under the rear bumper, and the liftgate automatically opens.

LED headlights – These headlights illuminate a broader and longer area than regular incandescent or halogen lights. That means they are also easier for other drivers to see.
