2019 Jeep Compass Overview - The 2019 Jeep Compass slots between the Jeep Renegade and the larger Cherokee. It’s a compact crossover seating five and looks like a shrunken version of the full-size Grand Cherokee. Like most Jeep SUVs, the Compass is pretty solid offroad, but it gets a 4-cylinder engine lacking power and refinement. It’s only available with one engine option: a 2.4-liter inline-4 with 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. This compact crossover SUV competes with the Subaru Crosstrek, Honda CR-V, and Kia Sportage, though only the Crosstrek can come close to the capability of the Compass offroad. For 2019 the Jeep Compass got a few new option packages, a larger Uconnect screen in the Sport and Latitude trims, and the addition of adaptive cruise control in the optional Advanced Safety Package. There’s also a new Upland special edition for this model year (more on that under the Sport trim) and a new grey exterior paint color. Which 2019 Jeep Compass trim level offers the most safety? - The 2019 Jeep Compass gets a 4-star crash rating from NHTSA and an overall good rating from IIHS. There are some trims (lower trims) that get poor and moderate ratings for their headlights and on the side updated test. If you’re looking for the safest trim, look to get into a Trailhawk or higher for the upgraded headlights.

2019 Jeep Compass Sport - The base trim of the Jeep Compass Sport comes in front-wheel drive (FWD) with the option of 4-wheel drive. With 4×4, the Sport cost an additional $1500. This version comes equipped with a 2.4-liter inline-4 that puts out 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. If you choose the FWD version, you get a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the 4×4 version gets a 9-speed automatic. The 4×4 version also comes with a traction management system to help you get unstuck if you take your Compass off-roading. You can also opt for a 4×4 Compass Sport with a 6-speed manual transmission. At this trim, you get a cloth interior, automatic halogen headlights, daytime running lights, variable windshield wipers, a rear defroster, power, adjustable, heated, manual-folding exterior mirrors, and one-touch up and down front windows. You also get 16-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, you get a 3.5-inch black and white driver information display, a steering wheel with integrated audio and cruise control, manual 6-way driver’s and front passenger’s seat, 60/40 folding rear seats, an audio system with six speakers, and Uconnect, including a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In terms of tech, the base Jeep Compass is well-equipped. It comes standard with Jeep’s Uconnect system with an 8.4-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 7-inch full-color driver information display. It also comes with voice command, Bluetooth, a media hub with a pair of USB ports and AUX jack, a 115-volt, and two 12-volt outlets. On the safety front, the Jeep Compass comes with remote start, and security alarm, a rear backup camera, electronic stability control with traction control, electronic roll mitigation, trailers sway control, hill start assist, and tire pressure monitor system. You also get cruise control. As options, you can add things like a panoramic sunroof and upgraded 9-speaker audio system, a power liftgate, and Uconnect with SiriusXM capability. You can also opt for the Advance Safety Group, adding full-speed forward collision warning and active braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, auto high beams. This trim also gets you access to the new-for-2019 Upland edition, which is only available on the 4×4 models, which is more a looks package than anything — the chrome on the exterior essentially gets blacked out. Key features of the 2019 Jeep Compass Sport include:

2019 Jeep Compass Latitude - The Latitude trim builds on the offerings from the Sport trim. Like the Sport trim, you can opt for the 6-speed automatic transmission in the FWD version and the 9-speed automatic in the 4×4 versions. You can also opt for the manual 6-speed transmission on the 4×4 Compass Latitude. At this trim, you get access (in the 4×4 model) to the full-time 4×4 system with a disconnecting rear axle. On the outside, you get the addition of front fog lights, cornering lights, and body-colored mirrors. You also get 17-inch wheels instead of 16-inch wheels. Inside, you get a vinyl and cloth interior with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise control, ambient LED interior lighting, a manual 6-way driver’s and front passenger’s seat, and Sirius XM access. On the safety front, you get the addition of rain brake support, a rearview camera that offers active grid lines, and front-seat active head restraints. You can upgrade from the 6-speaker audio system to a 9-speaker version and step up to the 8.4-inch Uconnect system with navigation. You can also add the Advanced Safety Group, adding adaptive cruise control, full-speed forward collision warning with active braking, lane departure warning, auto high beam control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. You can also opt for the Altitude Special edition (only available on models with the automatic transmission), blacking out the shiny chrome exterior pieces. The Altitude Special Edition is only available in a few colors (Laser Blue Pearl, Billet Silver Metallic, Redline Pearl Coat, White, Diamond Black, Crystal Pearl, and Granite Crystal Metallic). The cold weather package offers a wiper de-icer, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, all-season floor mats, and a remote start system for those chilly days. There is also a package called the “Popular Equipment Group,” which gets you an 8-way power driver’s seat with 4-way power lumbar adjustment and a manual passenger’s seat, rearview auto-dimming mirror, 7-inch full-color driver display, and remote start when the vehicle has the automatic transmission. There is no manual transmission available on the Trailhawk version. You get Jeep’s Active Drive Low system which includes a 4-low mode for rock crawling, hill descent control, and an off-road suspension. This Compass version gets an additional 1-inch of ground clearance and rugged lower front and rear cladding, with a skid plate for the fuel tank, transmission, transfer case, and suspension. You also get front and rear tow hooks. Inside, you get leather trim with cloth insert seats or perforated leather seats, depending on your choice. You get a dual-zone automatic temperature control, the 7-inch full-color driver information screen, an added USB port on the back of the center console for your rear passengers, a leather-wrapped shift knob, and a steering wheel with controls for cruise control and audio. At this level, you get access to options like the addition of a panoramic sunroof, power liftgate, upgraded 8.4-inch Uconnect system with navigation, and access to more packages. You can opt for leather interior, upgraded bi-xenon headlights and LED taillights, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic assist, parking sensors, and sensing wipers. You also get access to a towing package that includes a wiring harness. The Compass can only tow 1000 lbs. Key features of the 2019 Jeep Compass Trailhawk include:

2019 Jeep Compass Limited - At the Limited trim, the Jeep Compass edges into near-luxury territory. Here, you can again opt for either 4×4 or FWD, but there is no option for a manual transmission. On the outside, you can opt for 18- or 19-inch wheels and get standard upgraded sunscreen glass, DRLs, windshield wiper de-icer, and halogen headlights. Inside, you get a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted audio and cruise controls, an 8.4-inch Uconnect System, a 7-inch full-color driver display, overhead console with reading lights, standard rearview auto-dimming mirror, and heated power 8-way driver seat with 4-way power lumbar and manual 6-way passenger seat. On this trim, you can add the panoramic sunroof, compact spare tire, the 9-speaker audio system, an upgraded Uconnect system with navigation, the advanced safety group (the same on the other packages), and added lighting (bi-xenon headlights, etc.). A High Altitude package also adds blacked-out exterior bits, the bi-xenon headlights, 19-inch wheels, upgraded Uconnect, and a Beats audio system. This package was only available on Jeep Compass Limited editions in Billet Silver Metallic, Redline Pearl Coat, Pearl White Tri-Coat, White, Diamond Black, Crystal Pearl, and Jazz Blue Pearl.
