First arriving in showrooms for the the model year <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/2011/nissan/leaf" target="_blank">2011</a>, the Leaf sold so well due to its affordable and budget friendly pricing, allowing it to compete for new car sales among EV and non-EV vehicles. Initially the Leaf had a modest driving range of only 73 miles but Nissan's engineering team gradually increased the vehicle's total drive range slowly over the following years. For the 2021 model year, Nissan introduced a mobile app allowing you to control vehicle charging remotely and pre-cool or pre-heat the car as long it is connected to a charger. Charging can be done via either a 120-volt or preferably a 220 - 240-volt outlet. The Leaf has consistently received 5-stars for safety by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as the car comes with a variety of safety systems and driver assistance technologies.
