The BMW M3 Competition is a higher-performance version of the base model <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/bmw/m3" target="_blank">BMW M3</a>. The Competition Package debuted on the a <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/bmw/m3?endYear=2006&amp;startYear=2001" target="_blank">E46 M3</a> during the final years of production. One of the easiest ways to spot a BMW E46 M3 Competition is if it's painted in the exclusive Interlagos Blue. In addition to an exclusive paint color, the Competition Package includes forged wheels, modified suspension, larger brakes, and a quicker steering rack.

The Competition Package is also available on late model year <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/bmw/m3?endYear=2013&amp;startYear=2008" target="_blank">E9X M3 (E90, E92, E93)</a> models, but the modification list is smaller than the previous generation. Thankfully, the price reflects the minimal modifications, which include exclusive wheels, a lowered and more adaptive suspension, and a less invasive stability control mode to allow for more oversteer.

<a href="https://www.autotrader.com/bmw" target="_blank">BMW</a> means business this time and boosts the power output for the Competition Package. The <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/bmw/m3?endYear=2018&amp;startYear=2015" target="_blank">F80 M3</a> Competition Package is the first time a Competition model (444 HP) produces more power than the base model (425 HP). The modest bump in power is enough to shave 0.1 seconds off the already fast 0-60 time of roughly 4 seconds, depending on the transmission type. If you're searching for the fastest acceleration available, choose the M-DCT transmission (3.8 seconds 0-60) because it's 0.3 seconds faster than the manual transmission (4.1 seconds 0-60).

In addition to more horsepower, the third version of the M3 Competition features several modifications to improve handling, including forged wheels, Adaptive M suspension, and an Active M differential. Inside is a pair of lightweight M sports seats offering superb bolstering for high-performance racetrack driving.

The <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/bmw/m3?endYear=2024&amp;startYear=2021" target="_blank">G80 M3</a> has pushed the performance limits to new heights, and the Competition Package is now a stand-alone trim with the option to add xDrive for the first time. The M3 Competition models make an additional 30 HP / 73 LB-FT, bringing the output to a staggering 503 horsepower and 479 LB-FT torque. More than 500 horsepower is a lot of power to send to the rear wheels, and the all-wheel drive version of the M3 Competition shaves nearly half a second off the 0-60 time (3.8 seconds vs. 3.4 seconds).

The M3 Competition models have always offered a lot of bang for the buck. Keeping with tradition, it costs a few thousand dollars over a base model M3. The M3 Competition xDrive version costs more than $8,000 over the standard RWD M3, but it's still a great deal considering AWD drivetrains tend to add a few thousand dollars even to the most pedestrian of vehicles.
