The Chevy SS was available from <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/2014/chevrolet/ss" target="_blank">2014</a> - <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/2017/chevrolet/ss" target="_blank">2017</a> and offered a rear-wheel drive 4-door sedan featuring a 400+ horsepower V8 engine, a 6-speed manual transmission, a comfortable cabin and a so-so exterior design. One look at the SS and you wouldn't think that this car is a borderline muscle car. Manufactured in and imported from Australia, at the time when it came out our editors commented that the SS “accelerates, handles, and brakes excellently” and that “the chassis and suspension are flawless” but we found the styling to be underwhelming and it isn't available in a all-wheel-drive version. This isn't like the <a href="https://classics.autotrader.com/classic-cars-for-sale/chevrolet-camaro-ss-for-sale" target="_blank">classic Chevy Camaro SS</a> in that the modern SS can perform equally well in a straight line or when cornering. Some of the Autotrader writers have even claimed that the current SS is a modern collectible classic car. If you're looking to buy a used SS, try searching for an automatic version as those seem to be more available compared to the manual-drive SS. The <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/2015/chevrolet/ss" target="_blank">2015 model year</a> offered a manual transmission and a magnetic ride control suspension for the first time. Unfortunately, the SS is not a true competitor to muscle cars like the <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/chevrolet/camaro" target="_blank">Chevrolet Camaro</a>, <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/ford/mustang" target="_blank">Ford Mustang</a> and <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/dodge/charger" target="_blank">Dodge Charger</a> all of which offer a more thrilling and responsive ride over the SS. All things being equal, you'll have to ask yourself what the SS has that those other cars don't especially when the SS, which was one of Chevrolet's least popular vehicles, can be harder to find. Doug Demuro once said the SS "has everything enthusiasts want on paper and yet it was a flop." Was it solely due to those air vents that serve no functional purpose? Maybe, maybe not. There was only one trim of the SS and the sunroof was the only available option. Be warned that the 2014 Chevy SS faced several recalls over various interior and electrical components.
