One of its many remarkable aspects was that, without using a turbocharger or supercharger, the S2000 achieved more than 100 horsepower per liter of displacement -- a real feat of engineering. Because of its variable valve timing, the engine had to be revved hard to reach that point, but that was part of the fun. Not offered in automatic, its beautifully smooth stick shift and handling could rival the Porsche Boxster.
