Honda Accord Hybrid (4th Generation: 2023 - Current)

Key Improvements: The Accord Hybrid features a more minimalist design than previous generations. The Accord's exterior features sleek body lines that seamlessly transition into the roof. Laser brazing eliminates the need to use molding to hide the transition between body panels and provides a more premium appearance. The interior features the largest touchscreen in a Honda vehicle to date, measuring a whopping 12.3 inches. While Honda probably could have moved all the controls to the infotainment, it's nice to see that they kept physical controls for the HVAC and audio volume.

The redesigned 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor are slightly down in horsepower but gain 15 lb-ft of torque. The total system power output is an impressive 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. The fourth-generation Accord Hybrid delivers up to 51 mpg, a 2 mpg improvement over the previous 2.0-liter hybrid engines.

Model Updates: For 2025, heated front seats, rear air vents, and wireless phone charging will be standard across the Accord Hybrid lineup. 


Honda Accord Hybrid (3rd Generation: 2018 - 2022)

Key Improvements: The third-generation Accord Hybrid has much sportier styling than the previous versions, and the seating position is one inch lower in the front and .79 inches lower in the rear. The wheelbase is 2.16 inches longer and greatly benefits rear-seat passengers by providing 1.9 inches of additional legroom. The hybrid battery is redesigned to take up less trunk space and increases cargo capacity by 3.2 cubic feet. The power output is unchanged from the gas engine and electric motor, providing 212 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque.

Drivers can now choose from four levels of regenerative braking using the paddles mounted to the steering wheel. The Accord Hybrid seamlessly switches between three drive modes (EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive) depending on the driving conditions to maximize performance.

Model Updates: The Acoustic Vehicle Alert System is new for 2020 and increases pedestrian safety while operating in electric-only mode. 2021 brings an exterior styling refresh that boasts a wider grille, improved integration of the Honda Sensing radar unit, LED headlights with improved illumination, and smaller openings for the fog lights. The EX trim is discontinued for 2022, and the Sport trim joins the Accord Hybrid lineup.


Honda Accord Hybrid (2nd Generation: 2014 - 2017)

Key Improvements: The Accord Hybrid is back and is now available in two versions. The Accord Hybrid features a 1.3 kWh battery, and the Accord Plug-In Hybrid has a 6.7 kWh battery that provides 13 miles of electric-only range. Both versions of the Accord Hybrid are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 124-kilowatt electric motor. Although the combined power output is quite a bit lower than the previous generation at 196 horsepower, the city fuel economy is nearly double at 49 vs 25 mpg. The Accord PHEV has a combined fuel economy of 115 MPGe and 46 MPG.

Now available in three trim levels (EX, EX-L, and Touring), drivers can forgo some of the more luxurious features to save money. Standard features include dual-zone climate control, a 10-way power driver seat with lumbar support, and a 160-watt 6-speaker audio system. Optional features include leather seats, heated front seats, a 360-watt 7-speaker audio system with a subwoofer, a power moonroof, and adaptive cruise control. All trim levels include a backup camera and LaneWatch, while the higher trim levels add safety features like Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning.

Model Updates: The 2017 Accord Hybrid now makes 16 more horsepower (212 vs.196) and delivers the same great fuel economy as the previous years. The Honda Sensing suite of safety features is now standard on all Accord Hybrid models. Standard safety features include collision mitigation braking, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, lane keep assistance, road departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control.

The exterior styling is also refreshed and includes sportier front and rear bumpers, rear deck spoiler, and expanded LED lighting. 


Honda Accord Hybrid (1st Generation: 2005 - 2007)

A 3.0-liter V6 engine and a 12-kilowatt electric motor powers the first-generation Honda Accord Hybrid. The combined power output is 253 – 255 horsepower, depending on the model year. The gasoline engine features Variable Cylinder Management, which deactivates three of the six cylinders to minimize fuel consumption when traveling under light load. Other fuel-saving measures include using an aluminum hood, bumper beams, and magnesium engine cover. The Accord Hybrid V6 beats the four-cylinder non-hybrid version by a few MPG across the board for city, highway, and combined ratings.

The interior of the Accord Hybrid is quite luxurious. It features a leather interior with an 8-way power driver's seat, dual-zone climate control, and a 6-disc CD changer. Safety features include front-row side airbags, first and second-row side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, and traction control.

Model Updates: In 2006, the exterior styling was refreshed with new bumpers, a rear spoiler, and unique wheels exclusive to the Accord Hybrid to improve aerodynamic performance. Also, a power moonroof is now a standard feature.
