The Honda CR-V is one of the most popular SUVs on the market, and the Hybrid version builds upon an already great platform. The CR-V has been America's best-selling crossover for over two decades, and roughly half of the sales are for the hybrid version. The CR-V hybrid offers excellent city fuel economy and can achieve upwards of 40 MPG, approximately 50% higher than the non-hybrid version. 

Honda Sensing is standard on all CR-V Hybrid models and includes numerous safety features such as Collision Mitigation Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, adaptive cruise control, and many more.

Honda CR-V Hybrid (2nd Generation: 2003 - Current)

Key Improvements: The CR-V Hybrid is quieter than before, thanks to internal engine improvements to reduce vibration and a urethane engine cover to dampen sounds. The new, more powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor provide 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. Drivers looking to maximize their fuel economy now have the option to equip the CR-V Hybrid with FWD, which boosts fuel economy by a few MPG across the board. While the fuel savings are marginal on the FWD version, the price is $1,500 less than the AWD version, which may entice shoppers to skip the AWD who don’t have to drive in the snow.

The CR-V has grown in size and has a more rugged exterior styling that is less rounded than previous generations. The other length grew 2.7 inches, while the wheelbase is 1.6 inches longer and 0.4 inches wider. The larger wheelbase and the addition of Snow mode helps improve handling when driving in reduced traction scenarios. Rear seat passengers will ride more comfortably with an additional 0.6 inches of legroom and the eight-position reclining rear seats. The cargo capacity also improves over the previous generation by 3.1 cubic feet

the interior is more minimalist than the previous generation and closely resembles the rest of the <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/honda">Honda</a> vehicle lineup. It’s nice to see that Honda still uses physical controls for the most used items like HVAC and the volume which has been fully integrated into the infotainment screen by other manufacturers.


Honda CR-V Hybrid (1st Generation: 2020 - 2022)

The Honda CR-V Hybrid offers a more refined driving experience by delivering more torque lower in the RPM range to make accelerating from a standstill effortless. The styling of the CR-V Hybrid closely resembles that of the gasoline version with a few minor differences that include unique bumpers, rectangular LED foglights (EX trim and higher), a blue-tinted Honda badge on the grille, and hybrid badges in various spots on the exterior.

The CR-V Hybrid's 2-liter four-cylinder engine and 135-kilowatt electric motor deliver 202 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. Drivers can select from four drive modes: ECON, Normal, Sport, and EV. ECON mode reduces throttle inputs to maximize fuel efficiency, while Sport increases throttle inputs and draws more power from the battery to enhance acceleration. The Active Sound Control adjusts depending on the mode and amplifies engine sounds through the audio system. EV mode provides roughly one mile of range on a fully charged battery and engine load. 

The paddles mounted to the steering wheel allow drivers to further tailor their driving experience by adjusting the level of regenerative braking across four different levels. Regenerative braking helps recharge the battery and enables the CR-V Hybrid to deliver an impressive 40 MPG in the city, 48% higher than the gasoline-only version. When comparing the two versions, highway fuel economy improves by almost 10% from 32 to 35 MPG.

Model Updates: As of 2021, the LX trim is no longer part of the lineup, so drivers will have to spend a bit more money to purchase CR-V Hybrid.
