Initially the Leaf had a modest driving range of only 73 miles but Nissan's engineering team gradually increased the vehicle's total drive range slowly over the following years. Charging can be done via either a 120-volt or preferably a 220 - 240-volt outlet. The Leaf has consistently received 5-stars for safety by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as the car comes with a variety of safety systems and driver assistance technologies.
