Initially the Leaf had a modest driving range of only 73 miles but Nissan's engineering team gradually increased the vehicle's total drive range slowly over the following years. The first generation was from the 2011 - 2017 model years, and the second generation started with the 2018 model year. For the 2021 model year, Nissan introduced a mobile app allowing you to control vehicle charging remotely and pre-cool or pre-heat the car as long it is connected to a charger. Charging can be done via either a 120-volt or preferably a 220 - 240-volt outlet. The Leaf has consistently received 5-stars for safety by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as the car comes with a variety of safety systems and driver assistance technologies. With Nissan's excellent reliability track record, the Leaf is a strong contender and if you're thinking about buying a used electric car, the Leaf should be on your short list.
