As the Leaf faced increased competition in the EV-space by competitors such as the <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/electric/hyundai/kona" target="_blank">Hyundai Kona Electric</a>, <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/electric/kia/niro" target="_blank">Kia Niro EV</a>, and <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/chevrolet/bolt" target="_blank">Chevrolet Bolt</a>, Nissan had to offer more safety, tech, and convenience features resulting in the Leaf's increased sticker price. The first generation was from the 2011 - 2017 model years, and the second generation started with the 2018 model year. For the 2021 model year, Nissan introduced a mobile app allowing you to control vehicle charging remotely and pre-cool or pre-heat the car as long it is connected to a charger. Charging can be done via either a 120-volt or preferably a 220 - 240-volt outlet. The Leaf has consistently received 5-stars for safety by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as the car comes with a variety of safety systems and driver assistance technologies. With Nissan's excellent reliability track record, the Leaf is a strong contender and if you're thinking about buying a used electric car, the Leaf should be on your short list.
