The C was "designed for efficient and low-emissions urban driving" and the "C" in the name stands for "city." Pairing a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a 60-horsepower electric motor, the C's horsepower output is 99hp that produces 53 miles per gallon in fuel economy around the city. You can expect around 46 miles per gallon on the highway. The C excels in urban environments and its smaller footprint makes it very adept at handling tight in-town roads while also allowing it to fit into tight parking spaces. When paired with Toyota's high build quality and track record, the C makes an excellent hybrid choice that is both reliable and affordable. All versions of the C included stability control, brake assist, nine airbags, anti-lock brakes, and seats designed to minimize whiplash in the event of an accident. In terms of technology, the C features USB and Bluetooth music streaming, a phone link, and a 6.1-inch high-resolution infotainment touchscreen. The C is a frugal and basic hybrid car, meaning the ride can be a bit stiff, the interior features a lot of plastic, the infotainment screen is small, and overall it is missing the higher-end finishes like the other Prius models but if you're seeking an affordable hybrid with touches of tech, the C might be just perfect. Perhaps this is why our editorial team ranked the Prius C as one of the most affordable new hybrids for 2019. As a comparison, the other Prius models are all larger, feature a bigger engine (134hp) along with higher-end finishes and options but of course they each have a higher price point that the C.
