I have just driven this 2005 Honda Element from WA to VA where we now live. It was my daughter's car there for 4 years so it was carefully maintained by an experienced mechanic with his own garage at his home. Prior to leaving in January I had the brakes done, the leaking oil gasket fixed and the ignition replaced to facilitate starting. ($1400 but at the dealer it would have been a lot more). It started making a noise under the hood in Nevada which turned out to be a bad serpentine belt. I had it replaced along with the tensioner, some hoses and also replaced the old power steering pump while in there. $2000. I took it to my new mechanic with a garage here in VA at his home to prepare it to sell. He replaced all 3 brake lights and switch, installed crank seal VTEC O rings and resealed chain tensioner cover properly. $400 I also followed his suggestion to replace muffler at a local shop and change the oil. $282. The rear lift gates gas piston struts were old and not lifting all they way so those were replaced, all front and rear wiper blades were replaced and I have included brand new unused set of tire chains from Wal-Mart $105. It will benefit from new tires soon and the dashboard passenger seatbelt light is on. This could be a Honda recall; it was on one of the other 2 Honda Elements my kids drive. Seatbelts work perfectly. Otherwise this one is ready for another 100,000K miles of fun. Great low maintenance, fun to drive, easy to upkeep transportation that you can sleep in, move a sofa or haul a fridge! Any questions, please ask.
