When the Lamborghini Diablo debuted in January 1990, it marked the Sant Agata manufacturer s most audacious statement since the Countach redefined the supercar in the 1970s. Conceived under the code name Project 132 and developed with the explicit mandate to surpass 200 mph, the Diablo emerged as the fastest production car in the world an intoxicating blend of Italian flamboyance, technical ambition, and sheer performance.
Beneath its razor-edged, Marcello Gandini penned bodywork lay a revised version of Lamborghini s legendary Bizzarrini-designed V12, now displacing 5.7 liters and producing 485 horsepower. Fed by multi-point fuel injection and breathing through four overhead camshafts, the engine catapulted the Diablo from rest to 60 mph in just over four seconds, continuing on to a claimed top speed of 202 mph numbers that placed it firmly at the forefront of the early 1990s supercar wars. Power was routed through a five-speed manual transaxle to the rear wheels, with massive ventilated disc brakes and double-wishbone suspension at all four corners ensuring that the Diablo s ferocity was kept in check.
While the performance numbers were staggering, it was the car s visual presence that cemented its legend. The impossibly low stance, signature scissor doors, and dramatic wedge profile made it an instant poster icon. And in a nod to Lamborghini tradition, the Diablo s interior married the exotic with the luxurious hand-stitched hides, deep carpeting, and a driver-focused cockpit that placed the massive tachometer squarely in view.
This 1991 Lamborghini Diablo is a particularly extraordinary example. Showing fewer than 14,000 kilometers at the time of cataloguing, it remains in remarkably well-preserved condition virtually a time capsule from the dawn of the 1990s supercar era. Its bodywork is finished in Viola SE30, the striking metallic purple hue introduced on the 30th Anniversary Diablo SE30 model, making this early car visually even more distinctive. Paired with a tan leather interior, the specification offers a rare and highly desirable combination that accentuates the Diablo s already dramatic silhouette.
Now more than three decades on, the original Diablo stands as the last of the purely analog, pre-Audi Lamborghinis a raw, unfiltered expression of speed and style that bridges the gap between the classic Countach and the modern Murci←lago. Opportunities to acquire an early, ultra-low-mileage example especially in such an iconic and celebratory color are exceedingly rare. This 1991 example presents a compelling chance to secure one of the most legendary supercars of its era, preserved in near-original condition.
