The Prius Prime can travel up to an EPA-estimated 25 miles using electricity alone, then automatically operates as an efficient gasoline-electric hybrid once the EV charge is depleted. With a total driving range of approximately 640 miles, it s an excellent option for commuting without the range limitations of a traditional EV. Toyota USA Newsroom The plug-in hybrid system combines a 1.8L Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder gasoline engine with Toyota s electric motor system, producing 121 net combined horsepower. Toyota rated the 2017 Prius Prime at an impressive 133 MPGe when using electricity. When that charge is depleted, there s no need to stop and recharge the Prius Prime simply continues operating as a conventional Toyota hybrid. Toyota USA Newsroom The Premium trim adds some of the most desirable equipment in the 2017 lineup, including the dramatic 11.6-inch vertical HD multimedia display, SofTex® heated front seats, an 8-way power driver's seat with power lumbar support, three-door Smart Key, and Qi wireless smartphone charging. Toyota USA Newsroom Toyota also made Toyota Safety Sense™ P standard, providing Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Automatic High Beams. Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert were reserved for the higher Advanced trim, so they should not be advertised as standard on this Premium. Toyota USA Newsroom One important technology distinction: the 2017 Prius Prime predates factory Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, so those features should not be advertised unless an aftermarket system has been installed.
